who was the author?...no googling

The useless dawn finds me in a deserted streetcorner; I have
outlived the night.
Nights are proud waves: darkblue topheavy waves laden with all
hues of deep spoil, laden with things unlikely and desirable.
Nights have a habit of mysterious gifts and refusals, of things
half given away, half, withheld, of joys with a dark....

Jorge Borges... an amazing Argentinian writer, one of my favorite poems by him is "Limits"

Of all the streets that blur in to the sunset,
There must be one (which, I am not sure)
That I by now have walked for the last time
Without guessing it, the pawn of that Someone

Who fixes in advance omnipotent laws,
Sets up a secret and unwavering scale
for all the shadows, dreams, and forms
Woven into the texture of this life.

If there is a limit to all things and a measure
And a last time and nothing more and forgetfulness,
Who will tell us to whom in this house
We without knowing it have said farewell?

Through the dawning window night withdraws
And among the stacked books which throw
Irregular shadows on the dim table,
There must be one which I will never read.

There is in the South more than one worn gate,
With its cement urns and planted cactus,
Which is already forbidden to my entry,
Inaccessible, as in a lithograph.

There is a door you have closed forever
And some mirror is expecting you in vain;
To you the crossroads seem wide open,
Yet watching you, four-faced, is a Janus.

There is among all your memories one
Which has now been lost beyond recall.
You will not be seen going down to that fountain
Neither by white sun nor by yellow moon.

You will never recapture what the Persian
Said in his language woven with birds and roses,
When, in the sunset, before the light disperses,
You wish to give words to unforgettable things.

And the steadily flowing Rhone and the lake,
All that vast yesterday over which today I bend?
They will be as lost as Carthage,
Scourged by the Romans with fire and salt.

At dawn I seem to hear the turbulent
Murmur of crowds milling and fading away;
They are all I have been loved by, forgotten by;
Space, time, and Borges now are leaving me.

No...do you ever talk to the people living on American small patches of land called reserves who are being screwed out of all their own natural resources by the American government while they live in poverty...well guess what...I talk to and read about it all the time...being wlilfully blind doesn't make it not so!!!!Just a typical denial...like I said before...just how many will admit it..while slamming and putting other countries down for the same thing...

Yes the Indians got screwed, the Aborigines got screwed, the Maori got screwed, in Central and South America they are still trying to get rid of the indigenous populations there who can´t even go to a school where their own language is taught... believe it or not the native language of these countries is not Spanish...but it´s the only language that schools are taught in.

The current situation in the US regarding repayment to the Indians consists of several things.... Anyone who can show that they are at least 1/16 Indian can get...a full ride to any Uni they get accepted in... a 100% mortgage on their first home purchase with reduced interest rates and laws were passed in California that allow gambling on Indian Reservations... an amazing business opportunity which they basically chose to sell to the highest bidder and are now just working in the Casinos rather then owning them.

What percentage of the Indian population are taking advantage of the free university opportunities? Less then 10%. You can lead a horse to water but you can´t make him drink.

At some point people have to become responsible for their decisions and choices...

More has been offered to the North American Native populations in way of reparation then to any other group of people who lost their land and rights through warfare... yet instead of stepping up and taking advantage of the opportunities given to them they would rather continue to drag up old injustices as an excuse to do nothing.

Right now that mighty California economy is tanking. Arnold is going to make a habit of going to Washington for handouts soon enough. $5b this time. And is asking CA tax payers to kick in another $5b soon enough.

Guess when you have alot of bad movies coming out of HoLLYwood...things get tough in the Golden Bear state. But all these actor/producer types can read a script well enough to give us thier impression of who should be the next President. Nothing wrong with that mind you.....everyone has a right to an opinion.

As for sticking homeless on to bus ....hey if they are going to have
open cities.....why not use them? Most of that San Fran elite is making over the $250k or is in the top 5%.....they can be patriotic and divity it up some. I think someone had that as a campaign promise.

Shucks thinking of going into the shuttle bus service here......making a trip from Florida to CA.....with the SW border along the route.....picking up illegals at the police stations....to drop them off in LA and SF.

Yes... it´s attitudes like this that create a need for more programs on a Federal level... if you guys would take care of your own problems, like poverty, the homeless of which the mentally handicapped are a large portion of, instead of shipping them out... maybe things could be handled on a local level which would allow more accountability.

While Hollywood does contribute to the economy there are many other ways in which California is a vital contributing factor to the US...

Virtually all non-tropical crops are grown in the Central Valley, which is the primary source for a number of food products throughout the United States, including tomatoes, almonds[3], grapes, cotton, apricots, and asparagus. Four of the top five counties in agricultural sales in the U.S. are in the Central Valley. They are Fresno County (#1 with $2.759 billion in sales), Tulare County (#2 with $2.338 billion), Kern County (#4 with $2.058), and Merced County (#5 with $2.058 billion).

Add to that the Wine industry... the silicon valley and computer industry and I would say that California more then holds it´s own with the other 49 States... and lets not forget... Arnie is a republican...not that it would have made any difference with the mess the Bush admin has made of the country.

Yes Conrad, I saw that post... and considering that the entire country is in an economic mess as well as a good part of the world... it kinda makes sense that California would be having their share of the difficulties as well...dunno confused

Well I can´t imagine a more fitting tribute to Bush and his administration then something that handles shit all day.

As far as California goes...isn´t it amazing that this bleeding heart liberal, socialistic state has the 7th largest economy in the world and is the number one state for gross state product and has been for years... pays a slightly higher tax level then most of the other states and still manages to provide a higher quality lifestyle...

... and manages to do this in spite of having to take care of all the homeless people that other states stick on a greyhound bus....

confused

No you are not.

But I agree with what you are saying, do not try to do that.

Plus, I am not sure of their ages, it is different when they are younger than us...

I am a delicate soul, so I want a man to make me feel good, however it is...

This young man needs to tell her straight, if he is interested.

If not then he wastes little time if she is not on the same wavelength.

I guess my experience with "feeling" something for someone prior to meeting them has always turned out badly. Now I refuse to delve into the possibility of romance before I meet someone,

I´m happy to talk to men and flirt and get to know them well enough to decide if they are someone I would like to meet... but that´s as far as it goes. When we meet we can take the romance from there, if the potential exists...

So I guess what I´m saying is that I can´t know beyond friendship if we´re on the same wavelength or not.

Don´t try to take the relationship past friends while online... tell her you would like to take her for a coffee or something and meet.... then decide if either of you thinks it could be more...

Just my opinion and I´m a cynical old bitch....laugh

Possibly if you had read before making a judgement about another person you wouldn´t be sitting there with your foot in your mouth.

The post was in direct response to a question on another thread... the post is an article written by someone other then Trish that answered the questions "Why are some atheists so angry?"

If you are not going to read a post... perhaps it would be better not to answer it, because when you assume things... the only person you make an ass of is you.

Ok, so that was a lie (I didn't really fall out of the tree).

In all seriousness, I spent 4 days at a living history event in Northeast Colorado and struck up a friendship with another docent. She was from another town in another state and we just seemed to have so much in common that it was like talking with someone I'd known my whole life.

We chattted several times in passing during the day and our evenings were spent at my campfire sipping homemade wine and trading neck rubs before turning in for the night. It was obvious there was something between us and we both kinda' figured what it was but neither of us ever mentioned it.

Four days of glad smiles when we saw each other and long walks followed by the aforementioned evenings by the campfire and feeling closer than I ever had to anyone at that point. And on Monday morning I packed up my gear and helped her load hers. Then we hugged and, without saying a word, climbed into our respective vehicles and drove off in opposite directions...

...and you will always have a wonderful memory of that time.

So often when people meet in circumstances that are outside of "normal life" on holiday, doing a play, at a conference, soldiers going off to war.... attractions happen and our responses are much more open because deep inside of us, tucked in a little corner... we know there is a time frame... that this period will come to an end... knowing this we throw ourselves into things with more abandon then we normally would....knowing, even if only subconsciously, that the time will end.

I´ve seen so many people try to make these events continue past their designated time... only to have it fall to pieces and ruin a beautiful memory.

That´s why we should never blindly follow a system of beliefs or values without questioning their relevance... Because something has "always been this way" is not a good enough reason for it to continue to be that way.

I think it´s more coherent if instead of Obama changing colors, the House did. It could become a Black House, not only in name. Why not paint it all black? Would look nice. While they´re at it, they might as well paint black that tribute to Bill Clinton that stands in a lake right in front of the House. Would also be coherent.

This past summer I was with some friends having a drink on the terrace of the local night club... inside the DJ´s were spinning and outside you could still fell the thumbing of the bass... I glanced up to meet the gaze of just my style of man... the intellectual jock... a "Clark Kent" sort of guy...

I raised my glass and slipped him a smile...then dropped my eyes and turned back to my friends, blushing slightly, my heart beats accelerated... when I looked up again, he was gone...and I felt disappointment break over my still warm face.

I tossed my head back, stuck a smile on my face, turned and engaged in conversation with a friend on my right...when I felt a gentle touch on my left shoulder. I turned and connected with a pair of beautiful brown eyes framed by dark tortoise shell glasses and heard the words..."can we dance?" I smiled and nodded... he took my hand and led me away from the club... off the terrace and into the port road...he placed his hand on the small of my back and encased my right hand in his leaving my left hand to rest gently on his shoulder...and we began....a Foxtrot.

I looked up in his eyes laughing and said this wasn´t what I had expected but the surprise was lovely... I didn´t know people still knew how to dance this way... I used to dance with my father like this.

We danced and talked and laughed... exchanging names and stories of dancing. It was a clear summer night with the stars sparkling above us and the lights of the terrace creating spotlights on the dark road... and as quickly as it started it came to an end... as his friend said the taxi was waiting to take them to the airport... he said should we....??? I said no, just leave it as it is... if you come back you´ll find me. He took me in his arms and kissed me...and I stood in the road watching the rear lights of the taxi...
