Big_John: Well it is time for me to quit surfing the web and to start playing tourist. Today I am going to visit and tour a Minuteman Missile Silo and launch facility about 60 miles east of Rapid City, plus I am driving over and seeing the Crazy Horse Monument which is 40 miles south of Rapid City South Dakota.

Galactic_bodhi: I accept that everyone is who they are for a reason. I accept that they have the same rights as they do. However, it is my choice as to whether to tolerate them within my sphere of influence. I accept them, but I don't have to tolerate them. Give me a reason for my tolerance to be used up and you're kicked to the curb. I still accept that you have a right to live and try to be happy, but that doesn't mean I have to put up with you.

Big_John: The only big drawback I find is associated with the amount of time I am travelling makes it hard to meet ladies. I travel about 4 to 6 months a year. Because I am alway on the move, I normally don't meet many women and have 'second' dates.


Hence the importance of having a flexible travel plan... so that if you decide to stay somewhere for a while, you can. I dated a man in Italy for about a year... I´d leave and travel around Europe for a bit and come back, and on a few occasions he went with me on trips... flexibility is key!

Big_John: I find this is the classic trap for men in relationships with women. Many times a lady only wants you to listen to them and not to 'really' help even though they asked for help. Men and women are different in this aspect: men like to solve problems and women like to talk about their problems.


That´s one of the biggest misunderstandings between men and women... Men think that because a woman wants to discuss her problems that they want the problem solved for them. Usually we just want to vent our frustrations or get another view point before we solve our own problems.

Accepting someone for who they are doesn´t mean that we have to approve of them or their behaviour and we have a choice as to whether or not we want that person to be a part of our lives.

I think life would be so much easier if people would just take responsibility for themselves and leave others to do the same. If you go back to tribal societies when a persons behavior wasn´t something that others wanted in their lives that person was shunned. If no one wants to be around someone... I think that is the biggest incentive for a person to change. By giving someone with undesirable traits the attention of trying to change them... just encourages them to continue as they are... negative reinforcement is just as strong as positive reinforcement.

Big_John: This is the motto I live by! Many people ask me "Who do you travel with?" and when I answer no one, I get the look! I decided a little while back that I was going to see this beautiful country and the world. I also figured I couldn't wait for 'her' to show up before I start. I don't want to be on my death bed and say "I wish I would be done that."

I was scared at first. I didn't know if I would enjoy and like travelling alone. I found out I do. I am alone, but not lonely when I am travelling.


I was 40 when I did the same thing... and it was terrifying to start with... selling everything I owned and venturing into the world. It was the best 3 1/2 years I ever spent and it drastically changed the way I live my life. I also got a lot of strange looks... a 40 something woman backpacking around the world on her own... but I met some amazing people and had some incredible experiences and never felt lonely.

Big_John: The answer to this question for me today is "Living life". I went through several hard years and after I came out of that period I told myself that I was going to enjoy life. So I embarked on figuring out what life should be for me and I have been living it.



I´m with you there John... none of us know if we have a tomorrow, so I believe in living my life each day. So many people plan and save for their future... and some don´t have one. I never want to be one of those people who are dying and saying " I wish I would have...."

I think this is one of the biggest problems in relationships... that people don´t accept a person as who they are but try to change them to conform to the idea of who they think they should be or how they should act.

I firmly believe in accepting a person exactly as is.... then I have the choice as to what position they hold in my life.... Aquaintance, friend or partner and how open I choose to be with them and to what degree I trust them and let them into my life.

The same reason they do it in real life... fear of commitment and it´s not only men... it´s easy to pursue something if you don´t think it can work... but when it has a possibility of working out, there are men and women who will bolt.

Also talk is cheap... some people just say what they think other people want to hear

you are supposed to ask them, then tell them that there are no showers, toilets, hair dryers and that there are plenty of bugs, dirt, and other "not so friendly" animals out there...

... that way you have your out ("hey i asked you, you said you didnt want to go) when they try to use you camping trip against you while at the same time being guaranteed that they wont go.... !!!!!

Chapter one bro !!!!! i know its tempting but dont just look at the pictures!!!!



That may work on some women... but then there are those of us who can go 3 or 4 days without a shower... just a brisk wash in the stream, don´t use a blowdryer and play a mean game of "goals" with matchsticks and a potato bug...

Life is an incredible mystery and none of us know if there is any truth to past lives... but I certainly wouldn´t discount the idea. There is so much still to learn... and so much that we will never know in this lifetime.

What does bother me is the fact that the parents are making a public spectacle of their child. Kids have a rough enough time without being singled out as "weird"... I can´t imagine what this poor kid goes through at school... will he have be able to have a "normal" life?

I´ve never understood jealousy and find it to be a very destructive emotion. I understand envy... I understand feeling a bit possessive of someone you love...

What I don´t understand is why people become suspicious and controlling... basically I feel that if someone wants to be with me they will, if they want to be with someone else then why be jealous... do you want someone in your life who doesn´t want you?
