What an interesting thread I must say.....
It is never possible to generalise comments regarding a nation as big as the US....I am sure that even people's charactersitics change from state to state, just as much as Europeans are not of the same predisposition.......Germans are differrent then italians as from British as from Italians and so on....
However it is also true that there are some triats that are very 'American' and are considered irritating to others who abide by different views and opinions.
It is a mistaken concept that the American way is the one and only way forward for civilisation. Being very much in awe at the giant strides that the American culture has provided for humanity, it is with as much dismay to see the arrogance that emerges when that same culture is critisiced for it's faults and wrongs. Particularly if this comes from persons like myself who are not US citizens.
As a country, the US bases most of it's policy on safeguarding the way of life it has created for itself.....at all costs.
Irrespective of the ripple effects that this may leave behind on other peoples or cultures. The US seems to abide by double standards concerning the global scenario. And this leads to loss of respect.
There is a general trend in this direction in the EU. It is not dislike......far from it.....one can never ever seperate the bond that makes us the West. But notwitstanding, there is a lot that is taken forgranted by America and is considered arrogant by the rest.
Maybe America should learn to be more humble for a change.
Even if it is the greatest natian on this planet.
