What is your favourite thing to eat on a picnic or chuck on a barbecue? Do you have any must-have foods? How do you keep your chocolate from melting under the summer sun? What do you drink in the summer?
And do you know of any good places to picnic / bbq we could share?
Who would you most like to picnic / barbecue with and why?
Hmmm... very tough questions...
Pro:s
- picnics can be taken anywhere, and you can always rustle up something to bring along
- bbqs make sure you get a hot meal, and are a lot of fun in their own way (not least by getting to watch the-man-of-the-house-who-would-never-step-closer-than-10-feet-away-from-the-kitchen-stove try to excel at cooking).
Con:s
- picnics have a tendency to attract creepy crawlies...
- bbqs have a tendency to get too hot and smoky...
I think it's a toss-up - they're both fun!
What else.. favourite things to eat and drink on these occasions:
picnics: roast chicken, soft French cheeses, little cherry tomatoes, some tasty bread, some delicious rosé wine...
bbqs: burgers, spare ribs, chicken - with bbq sauce, of course!
One of the loveliest places I can think of for picnics (and bbqs, if you bring your own small portable one) is out on one of the little islands in the Stockholm archipelago in the summer - heaven! Hardly any people about, and sunshine, blue water everywhere, good company and good food! Otherwise, any beach is always very nice too - or a little glen in the woods, perhaps by a lake.
