I thought "Growing up Gotti" was pretty lame. All sitcoms could be burned and I wouldn't lose a minutes sleep as long as they burned the canned laughter with them. Throw "I Love Lucy" on the fire also.

I actually like many reality shows esp the most outrageous this or that.

"you had put an angel on my road Smilely even if i had never saw him i know the love of my life exist even if he doesn't belong to me at least he gave me hopes to achives some goals in my life."

Reading between the lines here. This Smiley apparently belongs to someone else? How come you never met? Does he live in another country? It's great to have a good friend especially one who encourages you and gives you good advice like it seems Smiley does and has. But, shouldn't you be spending your time looking for a good man whom you can claim as your own? A man who is physically in your life instead of in the virtual world?

No man will want a woman who is deeply in love with another man.

Wonder how many Jewish and Other Lifes that Practice cost????? (in the First Half of the 20th Century in Europe, and probably elsewhere!)

Some of you may not know what Conrad is referring to but when the Nazi's took over Germany and were engaged in rounding up and killing jews it was standard practice to make them strip and any male who happened to be circumcised was deemed to be jewish and wound up in a concentration camp no matter how hard they tried to claim they were not of the jewish faith. Bottom line, any circumcised male in Europe during the late 30's and up to 1945 was at risk to be killed if he didn't have his foreskin.

Excellent point Conrad!

Mastic, I agree, many a true word is said in jest.

I want to thank everybody who contributed serious submissions to this thread. As for those who saw fit to contribute nothing but jokes, I guess the subject matter is too adult for you to deal with in a mature manner. I expected certain people to weigh in with funny quips but I'm glad to see the thread wasn't taken over by them.

Men: You may be surprised to learn that you are not alone in your anger with your parents for mutilating you when you were a defenseless newborn and having this decision made for you at a time when you were totally dependant on them to protect you.

Women: You may be surprised to learn just how deeply some men feel about losing a part of their anatomy, and you may also be shocked at how much your sons may come to hate you for doing this to them. If you give birth to a boy baby and the doctor or nurse comes to you and asks if you want him circumcised, say no, it's HIS body and HIS decision to make, because once it's gone, it's gone forever and he will have to live with it for the rest of his life.

Circumcision is a very controversial subject. When a male baby is born parents are faced with a decision they may not have even thought about or discussed prior to the birth. They are required to make a decision that will last the life of their child and they often are given virtually no time to ponder whether or not they should take this irreversible step.
Do you think parent(s) have the right to circumcise their male children or do you think it should be the persons right to decide whether or not he gets his foreskin cut off?
Obviously there are religeous customs regarding this proceedure. Do you think this custom should be abolished?
Do you believe there are health and or hygienic factors that bear on this practice?
Do you think there is a financial motivation on the part of doctors and/or hospitals to do this proceedure?

Ladies; please give your input.

There is a tremendous amount of info obtainable through a google search if you want to learn more on the subject.

Are you crazy?
Do you want to spend the rest of your life wondering what if?
Trust me on this, 20 years from now you'll still be wondering what you could have had but didn't because you came up with all kinds of reasons why it wouldn't work instead of just throwing caution to the wind.

BTW that 5 year rule is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. People are not numbers!

One of the benefits of growing up in New York City was the ability to go to some of the greatest art venues in the world. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was my playground and I would go there often as a kid. I literally lived 1/2 mile from the front entrance. It was there that I saw the King Tut exhibit when it came to NY for a tour. Photographs simply can't capture the beauty of that famous gold mask. I found it hard to believe it was made with no modern tools so many 1,000's of years ago. I also was fortunate to see Picasso' "Guernica" in the flesh at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and the "Pieta" by Michael Angelo at the NY worlds fair in 1964.

Among my favorite paintings are 2 by Winslow Homer "The Gulf Stream" and "Breezing up".

We know about this don't we Joan? Funny though, they don't make chickens like they used to, my hens don't lay eggs in the morning, they wait til about 10 AM to begin. Must be 21st century hens. laugh

I'm thinking of getting some more Rhode Island reds but the price of feed has almost doubled since 2 years ago.

BTW did you enjoy the poem?

WINTER--EARLY MORNING

By Louise Owen

The black sky tingles
with a million white stars;
Blue burns Serius
red burns Mars.
Venus in the east
hangs bigger than a moon,
and the green-laced horizon
says dawn will be soon.

And the farmer wakes up, and the farmer boy rouses,
and the lights go on in the little white houses

Early fires smoke
is lighter than the sky;
in a hundred skillets
bacon goes to fry.
In a hundred coffee pots
coffee bubbles up,
and a hundred farmers wives
drink their first blessed cup

And the cows grow restless , and the farm boys yawn,
and in big red barns all the morning lights go on

The warm milk rings
in the bottom of the pails;
the warm milk foams
and the cows switch their tails.
The school children shiver
and stretch their little legs,
and run to the henhouse
to pick the morning eggs

The chimney smoke is pink in the light of the dawn;
the sky is like a roman sash, the morning star is gone.
The sun stands up with a laugh, with a shout,
and in all the little houses the lights go out.

Well somebody has to say something positive here!!!

It's a good piece of writing whether it came from your blog or not.

You have a real talent in expressing yourself. The sentiment is valid and worth discussing I think. There are too many love peoms out there and I often wonder why people can't get passionate in poetry about other subjects. Is it because they are limited to some clasic Byron or Shelly or Wordsworth that they learned at school, and can't see it as a means for expressing ordinary subjects not classified in the realms of idealism?Welcome to CS by the way.

As you can see, we are a mixed bunch........

Well, well, well.

Isn't this interesting? confused

Here's a little ditty for you to enjoy my good man.

to keep his wife out of trouble
he went in on the double
and instead of cummin he went

Oh Hey Robert... do the USA bikes come with lights that turn on when ignition does?

they do here.

They have been supplied like that for years but you can take the light switch apart and slice off the little plastic stud with a razor blade so you can turn the lights off.grin

My bike only had electric start and it would roast my coffee beans if I couldn't get the engine started because the lights couldn't be turned off.

Motorcycles have an additional problem to deal with which cars and trucks don't, namely they can be invisible to the human brain. Surveys of accidents involving cars and motorcycles have shone that in a surprising number of cases the automobile driver never saw the bike even when looking straight at it because the brain was looking to see if a car was present.
Car is present = not safe to proceed
Car is not present = safe to proceed

The brain doesn't see a car therefore it tells the driver it's safe to proceed because the brain was only looking for a car and no car was present, it wasn't looking for a bike and if a bike was present the brain was blind to it. Bear in mind vision occurs in the brain, not in the eye.

This sounds crazy but it actually happened to me on my way to work one morning on my then 6 day old Suzuki. An 18 YO guy coming out of a sideroad looked right at me, we made eye contact and he stepped on the gas and shot right in front of me. I layed the bike over hard to the left and wound up eating gravel on the opposing shoulder of the road. The first thing out of his mouth, "man I didn't even see you."

That's why they call them "Accidents"

Accidents happen when 2 or more unforeseen situations occur at the same time.

Personally, I think this "gas crisis", in the end...may not be a bad thing.

You're starting to sound like a democrat thumbs up

Here's an article on offshore drilling that might interest you.

http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/alerts/382

"Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) recently switched his policy on offshore drilling, calling to increase federal leases last week at a campaign stop in Texas.

This switch, after years of opposing such action in the Senate, puts McCain in line with President George W. Bush's energy policies. In his weekly radio address this past weekend, Bush called for Congress to act. Like McCain, Bush cited Americans' pain at the pump as a reason for Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling.

Which is funny, because there is no ban.

What the president and McCain want is for Congress to lift a moratorium on the issuance of new drilling leases.

Which is funny, because the oil companies aren't using the leases they already have." .......more

gingerb:

"You seem to have some bee in your bonnet about words that rhyme."

Not at all, in fact I've written many rhyming poems. Everything I said about poetry on here is valid but I like to think of it as constructive criticism. besides, I didn't name 1 poem or poster so I don't see how you can say I insulted anybody. I've read many truly great poems on here and some that made me cringe and I'm sure you have too. I've posted some of my writings here and you're welcome to find them and pick them to pieces, you being a published award winning poet and all. Of course I've also written some crap too but I recognize it as crap and would never risk exposing it and burning somebodies eyeballs.

As far as interesting topics goes, I think THIS thread qualifies as a good topic.
