Hi:

I joined about a week ago and this is my first post. Yeah........ Im a Newbie. Don't be too hard on me!! ;-))))))

I'm looking for other artists, or someone who likes the arts, to talk with. I don't want to talk politics, religion. The Arts is what I want.

First thought.

"Art is what the artists decide it is." Let's discuss this further.

I work full time in the Arts, I am surprised that you say that you do not want to discuss Politics or Religion as they are the subjects I come in here for.
(tends to be more real and not as academic as a forum dedicated to these subjects.)

Surely anyone involved in the Arts today cannot ignore what is happening in the World today as Theo van Gogh was murdered for his art and cartoonists cause riots.

Maybe your Art is an escapism from the World we live in, mine is confrontational, everyone to their own I guess.thumbs up

Yes it did, the early 90's, nationalism of banks, reduced spending, less reliance on oil, maybe this cloud has a silver lining.

The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election.

McCain, of course, was admonished by Senate Ethics Committee "for exercising 'poor judgment' for intervening" with federal regulators on behalf of Charles Keating, as part of the infamous Keating Five scandal.

And now McCain's running mate has also been found to have violated state ethics laws and abused the powers of her office, as part of the "Troopergate" scandal.

The nation has had 102 major-party tickets covering 51 presidential elections over more than two centuries. And we've never had a ticket in which both candidates on the same ticket were responsible for ethics violations before a national election. McCain/Palin is the first.

It's whatever works! does not matter what labels are put on it. It is whatever works and what worked a century ago no longer works now, and what we have now will have to change in order to make it into the next century.

All of our banking systems are changing worldwide right now and this will have knockon effects for all of us.

It's okay patrickthomas (good to see you again).

Part of the truth is that America can't produce a decent candidate is because they are always either Republican or Democrat. America really needs at least two more parties to level the playing field and actually represent a diverse America justifiably so.

More importantly, there needs to be more representation of different political parties in Congress at least. With America having over 300 million citizens, how can two political parties fairly represent America? It's insane.
There's almost no way for the smaller parties to get into the government cause of their small wallets and the smear campaigns they face by Republicans and Democrats when a small party tries to seriously establish itself.

Many Americans do want a political party that is simply moderate and pragmatic - one of the big problems with the left-right two-party system is that both sides end up radicalized because they have to reach their "base" (the people at the least-moderate fringes of the party). At least a moderate party would keep them honest about their real goals, and the fringe folks could join the Constitution or Green parties.

Hi SF, and not only in the US, we have fallen into the same two party system here as many countries have with people blindly supporting one or the other like it was a football game.

It would be better with an all party Government i think. At least we do have proportional representation which is fairer and less likely to be abused by the powers that be. thumbs up

Have you bothered to observe all of Obama's many abuses of power? Or did you just "dismiss" them as trivial?

I have researched every allegation made against Mc Cain, Palin, Obama, Biden and they all seem to have had some contact with people who were far from perfect and so it was with Bush etc, nothing new in that.

At least Obama does give the World some positivism as regards change which is needed worldwide now, McCain has turned into more of the old regime.

Am I arrogant for thinking that Sarah Palin's abuse of power could be the end of the race for McCain/palin team?

I think I am just being an observer seeing what many would feel is the straw that broke this camels back.

It is just so NICE to know that you, patrickthomas, in all your infinite Irish wisdom have decided who the right candidate it for us here in America. "Obama is a born leader and he SEEMS TO BE REALLY OK" is not exactly what I would call an astute statement and you would be wise to remember that MANY Americans whole heartedly believe McCain is the better candidate. That's why we have elections and that's what makes a horserace.

It's just such a pity we wasted so much time researching the candidates before we came to our conclusions. We should have just come to you so you could tell us who the true "decent" candidate is.

I have read everything I can get my hands on about this presidential race and am expressing my opinion on how i feel about the candidates and the race itself.

What I have noticed is the disdain the supporters of McCain/Palin seem to feel at any criticism of them.

Getting personal seems to be the normal response.

I hope not, there has been way too much mud-slinging in this race, does not look good from any angle. Obama is a born leader and he seems to be really Ok, If he is painted in a bad light it looks real bad that a country that size can not produce a decent candidate.
