Over time religion and politics have been brought together in a global blender, right now that mix has a Muslim Christian dimension with oil trying to stay on top

It’s the age old question "Who enjoys the sexual experience more, men or women"
It seems the ideal place to ask such a question, so come on CS see if we can arrive at the definitive answer. confused

“Yes, there is a lot of anger among some of them for the way they have been treated, in the US since Sept. 11”
So why are they so baffled by the anger of the rest of the country for having thousands of innocent civilians murdered in one day?
“individual Muslims are quick to respond to the person they are interacting with, and not blame him or her for the ills of our government.”
Opposite of my experience, complete opposite. By now, I am wondering if they wouldn't have to at least be able to get along amongst themselves, (having at least SOME common ground, it would be good practice/good lesson on tolerance and acceptance of others) before they could ever be capable of getting along with a culture that is directly opposed in its "teachings". I just have a hard time believing they have it in them when daily they are trying to kill each other, and have been for as long as I have been alive.
And going back into ancient history is a waste of time IMO. Anyone can trace back their roots and find some crime committed against their ancestors. I only have to go as far as my cousin, and only 10 years ago, who was murdered because of what we are. But do I hold that against all of Europe, heck no.
I think there is a link between western governments historical failure to deal with fundamental human rights issues within the Middle East. That over time has fuelled and given rise to global terrorism.

We have become victims of our own success, whilst marvelling at our ingenuity; we’ve taken our eye of the proverbial ball

We ignored iceberg warnings, one of the first signs that all was not well with the global environment.

In recent decades glaciers worldwide have begun melting at rates that cannot be explained by historical trends.

We are sacrificing the global environment on the altar of expediency, and now in the lifetime of our species we are facing unprecedented climate change. It is a marked and very serious event in modern history.

Fact - However, there is a school of thought to suggest that it may reverse dramatically into global cooling instead!

How is that going to happen? - Well as the polar ice caps melt by global warming several hundred cubic kilometres of fresh water is being released into the Northern Atlantic Ocean each year. This fresh water is slowly drifting south. When this fresh less dense water, eventually meets up with the Golf Stream bringing warm salty water from the equator, north, this salty and denser water, will become diluted, and as a consequence, will be at some point no longer dense enough to sink again in the north and return south. If this happens, the Gulf Stream current will be 'switched off'.

The amount of heat lost from the warm ocean currents coming north, will be far greater than that being currently produced by global warming.

Thus, certainly, the UK and much of northern Europe could potentially become much colder.
Yes global cooling would a consequence of global warming.
It’s a mechanism the planet puts into play when it needs to control sharp temperature fluctuations.

Well they just turned back the doomsday clock, so what does that mean. I'm not saying that pollution is not a problem. There is no doubt it is. I just don't think it's as dire as they say it is. There is no doubt we have to find alternate sources of energy.
It is dire and it’s happening now
This is a one time deal

If we wait to see how bad it’s going to get, then it’s already too late

It will take a global coalition and consensus to bring about clear decisive structured plans for the mitigation of global warming.

As we approach crunch time, we look to the bridge for clear decisive action.

But no such action will be taken, because of radical uncertainty that permeates the whole debate on global climate change, at best there in no one on the bridge, and those that are raising the alarm are failing to relay damage assessment to a captain that is beset by problems, that makes those of a floundering ship seem trivial.

The battle with global warming is one we cannot afford to lose

The Vast majority of scientific opinion is in agreement that it is Humankind's footprint that has brought about a perceptible shift in the natural balance, which is the global ecosystem.

It is no coincidence that as the globalisation of industrialised developments gathers pace fuelled by unprecedented technological advances, global warming increases exponentially!

And with former stagnant developing countries coming on track, like China, India and Russia, this has exacerbated the situation further.
It is the historical innovative usage of the finite resource (petroleum) coupled with rapid development and change in land use that has brought this monumental problem to our door.

There is a clear correlation between exponential fossil fuel usage, and global carbon emission levels, which are a major global warming driving force.

Sadly, the very resource (petroleum) that fuels our global growth enhances the greenhouse effect that exacerbates global warming. We are caught in a desperate loop, a user cycle.

Practically every aspect of our lives involves using resource that pollutes. We are addicted to pollutants, like the smoker who has been told to cut down the habit or it will be terminal, we promise to cut down, and then we relapse through lack of willpower, and clear understanding.

In response to:
Just so you know, I truly care. And I have made some serious choices in life to do my very best to contribute to changing for the better.

First, I left the US. It is a culture that promotes consumption on a gluttonous and irresponsible level, merely to promote capitalism. It is a system on self-destruct. SADLY we will all go down with it.

Secondly, I choose to live a simple life. I bike to work. I take public transport when I can. I buy things that don’t come in absurd amounts of packaging, and I try to listen to other ways to make a change.

But ultimately, it is all in vein. I am like the rest of those that somehow care but don’t know how to really change this extraordinary crisis we are heading for. AND I deeply regret passing on a plant to children that will be rot with environmental problems, simply because of a gluttonous lifestyle promoted by a capitalist society.
Good for you Donna
You have a cool outlook and I’m sure a bright future
Just do what you can; yes it is sad the legacy we leave for our children, my heart goes out to someone as young as you

We are “global environmental abusers” by default
This problem has a history that was never in our hands
We were told to be productive it’s drummed into us from birth
Our cultures our religions all tell us this

If we are to address global warming in a radical fashion, then there will be more losers than winners
And that‘s not the sort of thing and government wants to implement on its own
It has to be conscientious of the whole planet; this could mean a global industrial downturn

Can you really see that happening?

When we can’t agree on whether, global warming is really happening or whether it’s perhaps some natural cycle the plant is putting into place to adjust to our impact,

My worry is that if we act in haste without understanding what’s really happening to her eco system
Then we might put the planet into a chaotic political spin, which might see us going to war, to get those countries into line that don’t support the idea of radical industrial downturn.

What ever happens we need to come together in a global way, set aside differences, so that we can take care of our planet, I’m ever hopeful that we can do this; history shows our species has true grit when faced with insurmountable odds
That time well soon be upon us

Watch this space

Bush & Blair are only part of the problem, they have to keep their machines oiled, this a tough call for them because they are locked into oil based economies, like most western based capitalist developments.

There is no quick fix for global warming in sight, because the very people that are raising the alarm have a vested interest in their own futures which is disconnect from the time scale of the planets, in short we live for now.

History shows we don’t care for the environmental legacy we leave for others, so why now
As a species we have never experienced the true nature of the planet we inhabit, because we’ve only been around for a few seconds in the over all time scale of her berth.

From the outside looking in, it seems the planet is heating up
Geological time shows us she has cycles, of cooling and heating, so why is she heating now
(Is it a coincidence that as global industrial development gathers pace fuelled by Unprecedented technological advances, global warming increases expediently) interesting.
Given the time scale and the laws of chance it seems very unlikely, but not impossible

So we have a major problem to address, if we guess right we go to the next level, guess wrong and its curtains for our species

Yes I care very deeply about global warming

We don’t care about the planet
Because we think its someone else’s problem and not ours

I believe global warming will be our species last battle the one that will make or brake us

As a species we are bad smokers
I think we will finish the packet
