Oh and to answer this question: Who knows if [they] would want to be in a serious relationship? Lots of people do. That's what lots of people are looking for...including lots of older women. cheers

So, if you were to meet and date an older woman, would you tell her up front that you were not at all sure what you wanted...that you were just going along to see what happened? I wonder because I know a lot of 'older' women who would essentially only be interested in getting involved with a man who was looking for and intending on finding a soulmate, someone to spend the rest of his life with. You are prevaricating a lot on the queston of whether or not you'd want to have a long term committed relationship with anyone...so I just wonder if you are thinking an older woman would be fun for a while, but...

Not criticism..again...just want to understand.cheers

I am trying to pin you down, but it's not personal. We get a lot of new men, about your age or so, asking about older women. Comes up at least once or twice a week.

Honestly, it kind of sounds like in an older women, you are not actually seeking a long term, permanent, committed relationship...that you would be seriously interested in making a life with an older women. Sounds like you find them physically attractive, sexy and that it would be an interesting experience, a learning experience, an a way to try out new things. That's what I'm getting from what you are saying.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Again, this is not meant to be judgemental at all....just curious and trying to learn and understand where you guys are coming from.cheers

Honestly it is the way they hold themselves. I think it is in hopes that I can learn from them and find companionship in something deeper than just meaningless sex.
Permanent companionship or just learning about life from them?

I want a woman who knows what she wants. I feel like girls my age are all the same... looking for a free ride... I want someone to show me a thing or two for once... I also feel a very strong attraction to older women... when I say older I am thinking like 35 to 45.

Okay, that's reasonable. Do you think of an older woman as someone to "show [you] a thing or two" and then you would move on...or are you thinking of an older woman as a lifetime mate? Again....just wondering...serious question, hoping for a serious reply--not being judgemental at all.cheers

Portiea, you always start such interesting threads, too bad I cannot keep up with them anymore I'd hate to be your boyfriend, his head would be smokin' from all that hard thinking to keep up with you!! (just kidding a little, I appreciate your way of thinking and in general love people that like to think - in moderate amounts though )

To answer your question... Some days I think I need so little from that person, and then some days it's a list of not just 5, but 505 qualities.... And then someone comes along who has very few of the qualities I thought I needed to like a person, and he's still fascinating and dear... Also, I have no idea what are the foundations of a personality that I might like - others posters list dignity, self-esteem etc, and I guess I just take a lot of these for granted... I also don't think that it's our similar or opposite qualities that make it work - it can really depend on so many things... Sheesh, I obviously can't list the 5 qualities tonight, but one is for sure, I could not be with someone totally devoid of humour...

Any man I would end up with would have no problem keeping up with me in any area...blushing

I agree, humor is of paramount importance. thumbs up Thanks for the thoughtful response.

Have you considered "natural selection" Portiea? Moral statements and judgments are hard to pin down from purely descriptive premises. Describing how things should be (as much as we would love to ideally believe) does not imply that things ought to be that way. What are your thoughts on that?

I do think that our spiritual evolution will lean towards more the emphasis of certain characteristics of what's inside and how we think as our world changes over the course of the next few hundred or thousand years. But for now, it's still dominantly physical in the sense of "natural selection".

With that said, I like my woman tall, any hair color or race will do (ok, I am infatuated with redheads), smart, full of understanding with a top heavy expression of unconditional love, and being very perceptive.

Interesting post. Natural selection certainly plays a part, and I don't suggest I am not superficial to some extent. I would like to respond to this, but I don't really understand what you mean (sometimes I am truly dense) "Moral statements and judgments are hard to pin down from purely descriptive premises. Describing how things should be (as much as we would love to ideally believe) does not imply that things ought to be that way."

I am actually concerned that we are evolving in the opposite direction, to be more superficial rather then less, which maybe one reason why the divorce rate is so high.
cheers
