The tie breaker would be it this person is an anti-smoker, as its a habit I had not managed to get rid off yet.

Variety is the spice of life. I like many of the threads and there are plenty I don't and I stay away from them (Like Poetry - It's just not interesting to me but some people love it, so I respect their rights and don't intrude). I have moments when I can be really serious and moments where I just want to joke around and/or be a smart ass. I love the political threads even though they can get heated and despite the disagreements, I have come to admire many of the regulars posting on them.

I consider this site as an opportunity to meet and get to know people in general. Finding a partner here is a possibility but I can't force anything and in the mean time I'm going to make the best of what this place offers.

In short, I am me here. The good and the bad is fully exposed and I think it gives people an honest look at both my attributes and shortfalls. And I must say that others have really shown who they are here as well, the good and the bad. All in all I think the whole thing works out pretty well (For me anyway)

Indeed. I was - I thought this was fairly obvious - speaking highly tongue-in-cheek, P. I may have something of a warped sense of humor and a tendency toward dryness, which some on occasion have misinterpreted as some form of verbal assault. I had thought you knew this about me, and that I could kid around a bit with you -as I do with so many others here - but apparently I was mistaken.

In any case, my idea is that appreciating others' looks, and being at least in part influenced by them, is - far from being superficial - in fact integral to relationships between the sexes (and probably even the same sex).

It's not so much superficial as a foundational given in relationships. A lot of people squirm under the weight of this truth, but its gravity remains nonetheless. I think the solution is simply to acknowledge its power and incoroporate one's awareness of it into one's relationship choices.

Yes. It's a good thread and I think everyone understood where you were coming from. It brings up another reason why some people stick to the superficial, and that is fear of being attacked by another person on the forum. It's one thing to have that happen with the topic isn't serious, but I can be pretty hurtful when you are speaking from the heart. I don't know many people who willingly pull down their collars and say, "Here's my jugular, let me hand you the knife."

I avoid the serious threads here. I dabbled in the religious threads a bit, but found out that it is like hitting your head against a brick wall.

I hate argueing and the serious threads seem to be a bit arguementative. I come to CS for fun and mainly post in the goofy threads.

But these goofy threads have a terrific purpose other than being silly and fun and flirty. It gives people a chance to see the lighter side of others. Isn't that a factor we look for in determining a potentilal partner? Haven't we seen in profiles "you must have a good sense of humor"?

I know the serious threads are important also. They both carry equal weight to me as far as seeing what people are thinking and who they are. But me personally, I just want to have some fun!!!
