I wouldn't worry about a toe nail. If it were a big skint place and it keeps scabing over and bleeding, and if you can afford a vet, then I would say take him to the vet. But I wouldn't take him to a vet over a toe nail. Dogs loose them all the time and they know how to take care of that, trust me and I have been around dogs too long to know this. If there is an open wound or not let your dog lick it and it will heal on it's own. If you feel the need to do something, then put anit-biotic oniment on it at night and wrap it up; then during the day let it be open; the air is healing to it. Make sure if you put ANY thing on it, to wrap it up because the dog will lick it if she can. It is just natural instinct for them to do so. Hope this helps. I am not a vet; I just say these things from a life-long full of expierence. I am not there and have not seen the dogs foot. I can not say for sure what exactly needs to be done.

What was the nicest thing someone has ever done for you??? Especially, if it was just because they wanted to what do you remember??? The best thing to me is the simple things in life, I really enjoy talking on the phone with a friend for a half hour or whatnot and talk and have a few laughs. Some simple gestures of friendship and kindness means so much to me. dancing

Very true that we do tend to follow what is familar to us, maybe just be a milder form of something we've already known before.

there are people that make post just to cause trouble. those are the ones that need to be reported not the ones who attempt to defend their self and others in the process.

I would not suggest staying with him long term if his mother controls everything that he does. If she is actually saying things to benefit him and you, then I would consider talking to her to see if the two of you can come up with a compromise. Just what I think.

where did I judge? That's my opinion I have asthma, after an operation, I had almost three months ago, I was not allowed to run my 10 Km a day. My asthma got worst, I am glad I am running again! People always talk about loosing weight... I would say, get of your ass and start doing something about it , wake up there is no magical pill! You have to do it yourself, that is where the backbone comes in the picture!
You must be trying to help and thank you for that. But you don't need to be so critical like tellin me to get my ass moving. You don't know everything about my situaion, so you don't know if I need to get my ass moving or not.

Pretty Woman.. I can competely relate to your situation. I have a medical comdition that makes it difficult for me to exercise. I have began physical therapy and have an at home T.E.N.S. unit(delivers small electrical impulses to the muscles) and take pain meds. I have lost almost 10 lbs in the past month.

As far as the asthma goes, if you dont have it under control enough to take a walk, my advise to you is find another doctor that is willing to try a different drug regiemen. My son is asthamatic and I had to do just that. He is now able to run around with the other kids without a problem.

Also, you said that you had an overactive thyroid. That should actually make you more active than less. Usually its an underactive thyroid that makes one less active and put weight on. Do you take a medication for that?

If all else fails, ask your doctor for suggestions and stick to what he/she tells you, or ask for a referal to a dietician.

Good Luck! Just keep in mind how long it took you to gain the weight and give yourself reasonable goals in taking it off.
Yes, I take medication for my over-active tyroid. I also use an inhaler and nebulizer for my asthma. The meds for the asthma helps some. I did finally go to a docter and a different one that the one I usually go to and I was able to get a nbeulizer from them (which my regualr docter thought I didn't need, but when I went to the new docter, she said that I could have suied for a malpractice suit because I DID need a nebulizer and me reg doc wasought to be glad that nobody did take her to court). I was real sick and couldn't brath, my oxygen was down to 90. I uses two treatments with the nebulizer she had in her office and it brought my oxygen leveal up to 99 and I started to feel better right away. I just got the neb back in the winter, so this will be the first summer I have had it to use. I am going to see how much it helps during the rest of the year since it DID help during this past winter. I am in the process of getting the asthma under control. It is always a process though.

As far as the thyroid problems go, I do have over-thyroid and I am overweight. It isn't the movement. It is a medical condition which makes someone gain weight or not. My mother has under-active thyroid and she is small. I have a friend that also has over-active thyroid like myself that is over-weight like myself. It isn't the movement or the lack thereof, it is simply because it is a medical thing that cause the weight gain. I appreciate the input and I will definately keep in mind about searcing for a new docter.
