Thanks Arthurdent,

Yes, my townhome is 3 yrs old and I would like to maximize space. My basement is an 'L' shape. 15'x25'(minus 3.5'x12' stairway) and 10'x10' where the furnace, waterheater and window are plus a 7'x7' alcove under the front entrance at the bottom of the stairs for the washer/dryer.

I'd like to make it into a bachelorette so space is pretty tight. If I move the water heater from the center of the room into the corner I'll free up 40sq' of space. Then there's the bathroom rough-in. They put the damn toilet drain 23" away from the wall and the shower/tub drain 8" away. And I actually did order a 3' window when I bought but the salesperson never sent the order in to the builder.
So you see I've got quite a bit of unnecessary work ahead of me. I'll come back from time to time to pick at your brain.confused

Thanks againhere's to you

I support our troops %100. But we have no business being in Afghanistan. I urge everyone to show their support by writing letters to newspapers and their MPs to get our troops out of that quagmire as soon as possible. Don't let another one of our brave soldiers and families to suffer a vain useless death!

Ok I've got a couple questions.

I'm going to finish the basement in my townhouse. There is only one window 12"x32". I would like to install a larger one in its place(say 30"x32"). I know I would have to saw through the concrete and seal the area from dust. I'd also need to dig a deeper window well that I'd like to close in with architectural stone. How would you go about it? I particularly need advice on cutting the concrete and sealing/securing the window?

The builder installed 4ft of 4" fiberglas batt insulation around the perimeter and used a steel band to secure it and the vapor barrier. Should I just rip it down and put full insulation in the new framing or replace it with 1" polystyrene? What would you do?
