Since the successful reintroduction of elk to eastern KY, I am waiting to see what kind of damage these 1500 lb animals will do to an auto. Elk make deer look like chihuahuas.

George did a show at the University that I attended and it was such a great show. He was truly one of the best intellectual comedians of all time. Thanks for making me laugh!

Thanks George, you will be missed!

Hi reelman I think we could make a lot of money too if we legalized heroine, cocaine, mary jane, etc. Why not? The economy needs a boost and that would probably be just the ticket. End a lot of crime too. Cool.

I don't have a problem with potheads and Mary Jane. Only would increase the profits for McDonalds. A lot of people complain about pot, but when was the last time you saw a crime report where a person smoked a joint and robbed someone, killed someone or anything of the sorts. The only thing I've seen potheads do is spend $20 bucks at Micky Ds.

As for heroine and cocaine, creates too much of a danger for others. These are severe mind altering drugs. If all people were responsible in the drug use of any form and did not hurt others, I would't have a problem with any of it.

Banning smoking or making cigarettes illegal would throw the US economy into a deep depression. No ifs, ands or butts!

What about all the tax dollars from tobacco sales that is used to fund schools, pave roads, provide a living for hundreds of thousands of people.......etc.

People want to smoke because they can. Just like people wanting to drink alcohol.

I'm doing very well, thank you, and yourself?

No problem with respecting the wishes of others and not smoking in certain areas, such as the workplace, hospitals or even a non smoking restaraunt, but I don't understand why the choice for each individual business owner was taken away altogether.
The staff working in places where they were exposed to second hand smoke as non smokers should have been able to go to the labour board or OSHA with their complaints if forced to do something they weren't comfortable with. There are laws in place to deal with such situations. They just have to be enforced.I personally know several people that lost huge money and had no choice but to lay off staff after smoking was banned and a few who shut down their businesses permanently.

I agree pretty much with the Kid on this issue. I don't have an issue with banning smoking in "most" public places.

However, I do not agree with taking away the option from the business owner. When this done, this is called facisim. Owners should be allowed to make the decision for their own best interest. If people do not want to breath the smoke in a particular restaurant or bar, they can move on to another that does not have smoking. This is referred to as freedom of choice or just plain "FREEDOM".

Remember, once you allow the government to take away your freedoms, they will keep taking until they have complete control of your lives (which they want).

Here in Lexington even with smoking being banned, businesses are charging a smoking fee and allowing patrons to smoke if they want. That way when they get cited by the city (about $100), the fees take care of the fine.

If the smoking bans continue and progress towards harsher penalties, bars and restaurants will eventually become private membership clubs.

Some employers here in the states are even starting to fire people if they smoke any time or any where (including their own home) since they pay for the health insurance premiums. Fine, what about the obese, the moutain climbers, weekend race car drivers, etc., etc.

Aren't these people taking unnecessary risks as well?

I'm telling you people and I've said it before in other threads, when enough people change their voter registration to "I" or "O" and become the majority, things will start to change.

When they call and ask for your vote, tell them you like all the candidates and you haven't made up your mind. It will drive them nuts!

I seriously don't know enough about this particular issue to take a firm stand either way. But it is very clear that Congress no longer provides the checks and balances they used to. I don't know if what Bush did was wrong, but I do know that our congress and our entire legislative system is completely dysfunctional. Dangerously so.

Everybody is wasting time focusing on non-issues for the sake of political grandstanding and NOBODY is getting the work done. Moreover, congress can and does make their decisions based on political gain and not the well being of the country. The same could be said of the president, and everyone else. But our world has become far too complex and we are facing far too many dangers to rely on a system where NOBODY has power. WE are just too damn top heavy with legislation. We've tied ourselves up in legal knots

Too many laws, rules, and statutes. Anyone in DC can negate another with some obscure law. They are all money wh*res except for a handfull. We may or may not get to see it, but when the shit hits the fan and the dollar hits zero in worth, the politicians will be in a foreign country cashing in their gold bars and coins and headed for the beach and the people here will be fighting in the streets.

Does anyone else think something is fishy when the race tracks (horse racing...etc.) and lotteries have flawless working computer systems, but our voting system is in utter chaos?

Yeah. That's a bit of overkill. I think some degree of separation is required but only in terms of who can and cannot keep up with the standards and the work load. And I definitely think a kid who routinely disrupts the classroom should be removed.

I was a public and private school student. My entire seventh grade math class went on to have difficulty in math because we lost an entire year to ONE girl who sat in the back of the classroom and yodeled every day. Honest! The suspended her once or twice, but that's all they were allowed to do. So in the end, our teacher had a nervous breakdown and we all basically flunked math the following year.

That's the crap I'm talking about

LOL......My Algebra II teacher was a lush. Smart but a lush. She would hand out a test and then fall asleep on her desk. Sometimes she would still be asleep after everybody was finished and left the room.

You don't think it has to do with the fact that they aren't allowed to disclipline them? I've heard many teachers talk about this in frustration. The ADD kids who don't take their meds, for example, can take up a whole class period just trying to get them under control or have the "A team" come down to physically remove them. Don't get me wrong. I don't seriously object to ANY kid being mainstreamed as long as they don't bring down the national average. But how can it be fair to inflict this on the good kids - who are the majority - for he sake of political corectness, or whatever it is.

One tidbit from KERA.....Students have to keep a portfolio. Teachers have to shorten their class periods and work on the portfolios instead of teaching the subject at hand.

One other thing I don't believe in is the separation of students into levels. When I was in HS, we had an A, B, C, D track for each grade.

A - Advanced
B - General
C - Basic
D - Block

Now, is that screwed up or what?

Nope. I don't think it's crazy. I don't know much about the Supreme Court - although I do feel they have made decisions that have hurt us.

What would you think of somehow doing away with the entire party system and just letting the people vote directly on issues such as immigration, health care, school choice, Roe V. Wade?

I just never get the feeling that these decisions really do reflect the will of the people.

I agree. I am 100% for the letting the people decide on many of the issues. If congress can't reach a 66% vote on a particular bill, let the people decide.

I would much rather let the people decide than all the idiots in DC. That is a true democracy.

I will admit that the people did stand up when amnesty for illegals was up for consideration. DC absolutely got hammered from all parties on that issue. You saw how quickly it disappeared from the headlines.
