I was recently deployed with a guy that was very much, overly concerned with people's opinions and being polite too the point where it was creepy. Creepy is actually an understatement. I don't know you at all accept for just this post and I doubt your exactly like this guy but maybe people are sensing that you are trying to not offend them or whatever the case and it makes them uncomfortable. This is just a theory based on my experience with this dude but maybe your situation is similar?
