I cleanly admire Riya. Not so cleanly Eupho. A "distant" yearning for Athens. I have a blonde crush on BEB. A sizable liking for Bubbles. A fatherly affection for Pearl. A perky attraction to Imared. A verbose infatuation with Bajan. A fowl feeling for Arabella. Flowery sentiments for Rose. A Teutonic admiration for Uli. A desire to alter reality itself for a certain person north of me...

So I mostly named names. Do I get a prize, Claire?
Lady Ambrose :wow ...... thats my fav !!!!

Thankyou Thankyou for the clean admiration !!!!!

Never mind for the not so cleanly eupho ... I dont think she bathes everyday anyways ..professor

Absolutely!

Many of the cleverest, wisest people i've ever met have been un-educated/self educated and without any formal educational qualifications, like myself.

They simply knew how to think clearly - without fuss and with very great clarity of insight and judgement.

This business of deifying the supposed 'intellectual elte' is fruitless and damaging.
Many people I have met on the site , some whom i am still getting to know have a clarity of thought which i havent seen many a supposed
" Elite "

For that matter , the sensitivity and understanding that i seek to see in people around me, as i wouldnt stand someone who is otherwise, i have more often found in ones without an "impressive" formal qualification.

Good thread detente.

I agree intellectualism is important, much better to train our children to rationalise and think critically than some of the practical skills they are taught today which become outdated very quickly.

Anti-intellectualism is a dangerous thing, look back through history and you will see just how much persecution has been suffered under the various regimes who feared these people. Governments don't really want us to think, it can be subversive!

I don't believe intellectuals are necessarily cold people either, great poets for example must have a lot of passion and emotion to write the way do, but there is a skill, I believe, in putting across intellectual views which do not turn off the reader or listener.

Intellectuals are not an elite group of people, yet many fear them because they believe they are.

Sadly it's preferable to worship dopey 'celebrities' these days.

Great post Jan !!

Intellectuality neednt relate to education. The ability to reason , think and express without blindly following a bandwagon is sure the beginning but as you tread along the road a higher and broader understanding of the schema of things is " Intellectual " IMO.

Learning for LEARNINGS SAKE.

Also, understanding does not necessarily follow when knowledge is gained. The link between the two is often fractured.

Hence the world as we know have it.

But in ideal settings, you would have a point.
Couldnt agree more after a few things that i read in the last 2 days ..

I owe a heart felt apology to someone and I hope she understands that I dont know how to begin....
I never lied to you or tried to misrepresent myself with you, I just never told everything, it wasnt for selfish purposes. At the time I didnt think it was important and I wanted you to be happy, my thinking was if you knew more maybe it would hinder what you were seeking. In not trusting our friendship, I hurt our trust that we built since our friendship formed. For that I have missed our chats, emails, and forum fun. I dont expect you to forgive me, just not to hate me. I'm sorry.
very sincere Blue ..hug

For example, some decided to be a doctors because they have a passion for making people feel better. So, it’s possible that, the desire to feel that passion is the cause of why they decided to seek that knowledge in the first place.

If someone doesn’t know the difference? Well, you do have those that decide to be doctors simply for the paycheck or status quo?

Thankyou .. I understand now and i totally agree. wine

Unless you see those of the higher intellect blending in emotions with forms of mental stimulation, I can see it happening. Otherwise, the norm has a very difficult time reflecting on the differences.

What I do find fascinating is that, those same elements that mentioned in regards to love and compassion, is what triggers off the fire and urge to emotionally and mentally seek intellectualism in the first place.

Nice Thread

Thanks

confused I dont understand
