Here's another few.

Britain during WW2 were the only ones who had radar (the Germans also had the invention).

Flying discs were first discovered in modern history when one came to ground in Roswell new Mexico.(whoops, seems like the airmen on both sides followed on their bombing runs who reported "Foo Fighters" stories seemed to be forgotten).

The British Royal family are actually British( well the man who cleans the Rolls maybe but the rest of them certainly seemed to have a rather Germanic name!)

The Germans in WW2 were asked not to invade southern France so not to spoil the British Kings "holiday" where he was conveniently photographed doing the Nazi salute.

Most people arent even aware of our modern history, i've even heard one person i know under 30 say that Adolf Hitler was from Czechoslovakia and Osama Bin Ladin lived in london!!

I wish i were joking, it's too crass to even joke about it.That's how ignorant people are these days.

High Five!!!!!! No hate mail!!! Same here!!!

It has to do with body fat percentage in relation to muscle and bone mass. It has nothing to do with weight. Also affected by where the fat is distributed on the body.

So I read on the net yesterday!! One guy was saying he is a swimming instructor BUT he can't tread water either due to low index body fat and high density muscle and bone.

I am sure that if a professional swimming instructtor can't "learn to float/tread water" then it's because some people just can't float!!!

Ok so it might help a bit to fill your lungs with air for a minute to stay afloat a bit but not exactely helpfull if you are out of your depth and get a leg cramp or something where you have to rely on keeping your head out of the water and being able to breath while you sort yourself out!!!

You don't normally get too many water-born special forces guys who are carrying a few extra pounds!!

On the hypothermia argument though if you have a little extra natural padding you will survive longer on colder seawater if you unlucky enough to have a ship sink under you.

I think a message from the "gold exchange" on the answering machine saying we found a unpaid cheque in your name and we thought it better be reissued to you for say £1.23 Billion sterling would put a smile on my face.

1st stop travel agent to get a ticket to the other side of europe and then onto somewhere warm till i'm all better and healthy and full of life again.

Phone call or no phone call thats what i need but ill make do without the money.

In the short term though a good start would be another cup of tea.

Everyone to their own I suppose. I just found it full of intellectuals, even met one or two. Nice people and you can get specific about what you want, if you are looking for something in particular. It suits some people who really know what they are looking for I suppose and have definite scenarios in mind. I kinda like the mixed pot myself. Intellectualism is over-rated I think. A sharp mind doesn't always come with a doctorate.

A free thinking mind and an open one is always the most interesting. You don't even need an education to have a mind like this, but a little helps!

Oh your making the mistake that people who enjoy Big Brother as an interesting socialogical experiment are actually human.

There not. After all how can you explain to me seriously how someone like Jade Goody can make a career out of being a thick common ignorant slapper?

If you can rationally explain this and how people used to buy newpapers with articles about her and even buy products she endorsed i would be amazed.

Would you want to deliberately smell like an ignorant smelly common monster?

It just proves the majority of the population is brain dead.

After all it was good enough a reason to burn countless people in the past to steal their property, estates and lands or even just to scare the daylights out of others in the community!

It's ok though, because the church said so and they are all nice fatherly kind religious people who follow gods will.

So following that train of thought, lets "Burn Em All"........maybe it's gods will?laugh

I think one of the problems, certainly here in the UK, but I 'm guessing elsewhere too, is that in general, our societies distrust intelectuals, and glorify people who revel in ignorance. You just have to look at the "Big Brother" T.V. programme to get an idea of what I mean . I know it always get used as an example, but it is such a good one.

I think the upshot of this is that people in general shy away from expressing their thoughts on things in the public sphere, but have their little groups to do it. There is no shame in saying I don't know, in fact I think it is usually the most intelligent thing to say, as long as it isn't with a sneer..

Does anyone have an idea why we as a culture are like this?...is it because our culture feels failed by the intelectuals, lets face it, we all know where the enlightenment took us, to the 2nd world war, and the battle of the big ideologies, or is it just the obvious conclusion of the hedonism given to us by the 60's?.....

or......am I already seeing your eyes glaze, and the thought forming in your mind that I am being pretensious and boring....?...

Your reaching too far ahead.I'll make it far more concise and easy to digest for the hard of thought.

Most of the public are as thick as pig shite, sadly.

If they do like them, and wish to add something, ok, then those who don't, still don't have to contribute (by saying they don't like it).

Everyone has the option to look at a thread and if the tenor is not to their liking, they can just avoid it.

The thread then runs off the page and the person who posts the rubbish will eventually get the message that religious threads are a no-go.....

This is what I was afraid people would say!! I did not say they were wrong or didn't like them....what I said was there seems to be a lot of them all at once. It seems people are trying too push their ideology onto others.

I am glad people have their own religious convictions....but there are times they try too hard to compel others to join them. Some posts are so dogmatic, that the "love" they talk about is hidden by supression.

gingerb wrote:

Post away......just don't try to proselityze!!

I have an idea that was popular amongst the church a while ago and was very very popular accross the world for quite a period.

Next one to start a religious thread lets all shout "Burn Em.Heritic, let's burn the Heratic"

The microwave would be easier but who cares if it gets in the way of a good story.

My uncle told me about the easy way to do fishing while he was in Asia, instead of a rod and line and spending all day catching fish for the army unit he was with they decided on a faster, but noisier option.

Picture a big pond, full of fish but there not keen to be eaten by some hungry British soldiers......then picture half a dozen grenades being thrown into the pond!!

It was noisy but effective and then its a case of wading in and picking out the fish you want to munch for dinner!!laugh

There's no shortage of bright intelligent witty people. The problem is all those who are fit bodied have run out the door to have meaningful liveslaugh

Those of us that are left are either unable to move fast enough to catch a pizza delivery guy or cant work out how to open the front door to get away from our computers.

In my case i'm just out of hospital but as soon as my little legs will carry me out to the big outside world i'll be there like a rat up a drainpipelaugh

Good listen to the urge!!! Stamina does not get fed by an empty stomach!!! You don't need to cart your laptop downstairs to eat!!!

Also are you taking vitamins like
- B12 complex + Vit C = promotes energy metabolism & nervous system health.
- Vit D as that gets created by sunlight/sunshine on your body (until you can go out again).
- eating "live yogurt" to rebuild the natural "good bacteria" in your stomach that the antibiotics are zapping along with the stuff they need to zap?
- bananas are really good to get your levels of potassiums up. Low potassium also = low energy

Right thats it, i'm grabbing 4 dvds, the laptop and setting up my trough downstairs to eat an indian salad, then sandwiches, then some rice and herring and who knows even the catfood by the time the 4th dvd comes on.

Yoghurt might take me time to eat agin as its all i had to eat for maybe a month not long ago, so im getting used to eating anything that comes out of a cubboard, tin, box or bag!!

Right, that does it the craving for corned beef sandwiches is just too much!! I'll be back soon as soon as ive done my impression of Rosanne Barr at a Ribs joint on an all you can eat special event for $4.99!!

Brb, soon as the trough is prepared ill be able to type again! laugh

I might even make potato salad and ive already cooked up a pile of chick peas but i have the urge fro a giant french loaf and munching it.

Needless to say i have my appetite backlaugh Now all i need is the energy to go make all the foodlaugh

Post any old crap and someone will answer!!! Take a look at the Obama thread for proof of that.

Now all we need is for people to confess what fools they will make of themselves and we'll see who can be the most outlandish to compete for the prize for who's done the dumbest thing when either bored or under the influence of say alcohol.

Hell if Brittany Spears were on here we could have some great stories.

Likewise Micheal Jackson, and even O J Simpson?

I bet George Bush Jr has some absolute crackers to tell as well.Got bored, dug for bugs, played golf, dug for more bugs, shot self in foot again with press, wrote memo booking next break from work....now what did i have to do tomorrow, oh yeah read those intel reports, i'll just leave them in that pile there and go dig some more bugs and play more golf.laugh

sound like great moments ahead!! Enjoy!!!!!

When I have to be inactive (illness or weather - too hot or chucking it down so mountain track is bad without 4x4) I usually log into here or play on computer scrabble!!!

I'd love to go walking about in some mountains for some fresh air and peace and quiet at the moment.Even the urge to get on the mountain bike i own is quite strong but the legs are like jelly at the moment!! As soon as i get a bit of strength in my legs thats the very next thing i will do (a bike ride) and increase my stamina and lung capacity again back to the once fit and healthy person i was.

Right now the urge for a couple of sandwiches is overpowering but the physical effort to get my ass upright and walk the laptop downstairs to get them is a bit daunting!!

Mind you i just had a craving for a corned beef sandwich so it might lure me down to the fridge pretty soon!!laugh

I've eaten 2 bananas with my antibiotics and had swig of orange squash but the pull of tea, sandwiches and maybe even herring and rice is getting stronger by the secondlaugh

I think since the last time i was in dublin i haven't been rained on much since!! Well there was one occasion where i got soggy but it served me right as i thought no it wont rain as i ran to the post office.

Sure enough when i came out the sky opened and i had the entire contents of herfordshire land on me before i could get the 200 yards back to the car.I was like a drowned rat, so i thought bugger, i'll go do my grocery shopping now i'm soaked like a tramplaugh

No bloody wonder i get myself in trouble but i'm going to try to be good and stay out of trouble for all of july and rest before getting myself in the inevitable trouble again soon.blushing

Is it pissing down with rain at the moment? If not get out quick and take a photo as its a rare case of sun in Ireland!!

We actually have had some sun in London though i have to confess i havent sat out in it! Mind you if my garden didn't look like a stage set for "the Triffids" then i would but sitting there amound dead birds mice and weeds isnt very appealing.

Especially as it took me pretty much a week to make the house clean and safe!! I may as well roll on a field covered in dogs crap if i want to guarentee getting some bugs as sit in my back garden!!

Thanks, it's this and watching hundreds of dvds while resting but the urge to do something is terrible.I cant stand being so inactive but as soon as i can i will probably go mad in the shops, any shops to just do something!!

An old buddy contacted me on a well known socialising network website and were arranging to catch up after loosing track of each other when we were say 18!! Needless to say we'll have a lot of catching up to do especially as he was a contestant on who wants to be a millionare and didnt phone me as the friend and consequently got the answer wrong costing him i think £62k!!

When i'm bored i dare say like many of you i find myself doing things i wouldn't normally do just to fill the void or escape from whatever bored the living daylights out of me in the first place.

I remember one occasion when i was curious and bored one night and wondered what it would feel like to shave my head with a clipper set that was lying around the place.

Now being a curious bugger i watched the video, fiddled with all the attachments and thought this is easy, not even for a second thinking the person doing the video wasn't a trained experienced hairdresser, oh no......so i plugged it in and thought ill just trim this bit......then that bit and before i knew it i looked like a criminal on day release from Rikers Island.

Why on earth did i do it? But i do know it felt nice to have the short hair and have my scalp breath until i looked in the mirror and saw someone who looked like he was on a wanted poster issued by the police department.

What on earth stupid things have you done when bored out of your head?

Once i was so bored i nearly bought a Mercedes!!! Long story but its true, now i make sure i leave my wallet at home and when i go out i dont do much shopping!!

Go on, incriminate yourselves.laugh
