Linz is only an hour from Salzburg. 100km in 40 minutes when I drive, but here, in 25min I'd make the route due to who's there.

I like Salzburg. I met a lovely woman here in Gozo who was from Salzburg. It was the summer of '93. I visited her in Salzburg. I like Mozart kugeln and Kaiser beer and other stuff........ but I won't go back.

This hasn't turned out to be a very tolerant thread - opening old wounds isn't a sign of tolerance.......... maybe this thread should now die?

sigh

debating, or even arguing, suggests that it is the persons opinions that are being discussed in a rational and respectful manner. that is not what i've seen here recently- personal attacks on someone, completely out of context with the matter in hand, name calling and peurile behaviour are not 'debate'

jampet - I was being both frivilous and also making a point - many people just like to be right and often ignore when others say even when said in a sensible, respectful and tolerant manner.

I don't like personal attacks - it prevents debate which can be interesting and 'eye-opening'......... I really enjoy learning something new, and even having my opinions changed or modified by good people.

But nobody debates on CS.....they argue! It is imperative, above all else, to be right!!

Some people refuse to debate, I agree...... but, no..can't we argue?

Please, let's argue!

It is NOT imperative that I am right....merely to know that you are wrong is sufficient to 'make my day'!

Now that's a thread 'killer' for you -

Post:

'You are absolutely right, and I am wrong!'

I mean, what can the other guy reply to that?

dunno

grin

thumbs up

All I can say is they must have hired a new moderator....

I was called a conceited, arrogant, slut, insecure bitch that thinks she is to good for everyone... yet that thread hung around for several days before being deleted.

Yes, I did make a comment on the first thread that was locked down tonight because unless you have actually been scammed by a person, I don´t think it´s right to post their name and say they are a scammer, obviously the Mods disagree with me and that is their right... it´s their site.

Maybe this change will make CS a better place to be, where discussions can be had without ridicule or name calling and people will actually argue content of posts and not individuals.

Welcome to the world. What most folks in this day and age fail to take into account is that the vast majority of "poor people" today live better than "Royalty" did 150-200 years ago.

It depends how you define poor.

Royalty lived pretty well 150-200 hundred years ago; even if running water was a servant running with your water. And servants to dress you and stuff.

Heck, even the Roman had under-floor central heating and hot running water.............

I think the UN or some body deines real poverty as existing on less than a dollar per day - been there, done that...... in the USA you are poor if on less than something like $30,000 a year or some amazing figure that would make you seem rich in some countries.

I know the USA is a rich country with lots of poor people and has dropped to about 6th in the world in per capita GNP, but you still have plenty of people in the middle and a lot of quite rich guys too.

Some countries have a large percentage of really poor people, very few in the middle and a few really really rich people at the top - that's a society that really sucks (not naming any countries, but they are not in 'the west').

Then there is something else. People can be poor financially but proud and happy and decent - others can be poor in spirit and whining no hopers.........

It wouldn't hurt if tolerance were utilized by a wide variety of people who feel they're tolerant, along with the rest of us.

well said HJ- i have been aghast at the intolerance diplayed here recently by some. If some people act the same way in the real world, they must be involved in a lot of brawls

I like debate.

One can surely debate without the need to have a brawl?

We might disagree strongly with others, but I guess to be tolerant you have to respect the other person.

Some people say nasty things just because somebody has another opinion.

Saying nasty things does not earn respect - it makes it hard to be tolerant if somebody calls you a 'big fat smelly bum bum'........ well, if somebody calls me that it really upsets me and makes me want to cry!

I think I need a hug!

Tolerance is probably an easy word to use, a slightly harder thing to try to have, and something much harder to truly have....... but then good things aren't supposed to come easy, are they?

I hope your mother is well, HJ - and tolerant!

My mother tolerates me, mostly, and I'm trying to reciprocate......

When somebody is alive you only have an impression of them when you think about it. You might see them, you might feel them but it's all in the mind.

When they die you still have memories - maybe not quite the same thing as the impressions in your brain when they were alive, but still only an impression because we can never have anything more than what is in our minds, can we?

We can keep that person 'alive' in our minds if we wish to, or let that impression slip away and die or we can change it over time - seeing things about them we didn't see when they were alive, and forgetting impressions about them we choose to erase.

That's why history is so confusing - it's all mostly a mere impression of what was and we didn't know what is was when it happened anyway and then we die and then maybe our eyes will open or maybe they'll stay shut just like when we were alive.

I have checked ALL of Gilly's threads. He has never asked the question:

'When did you last have sex with a pitbull in a graveyard after a really good night discussing motor bike scrambling with twenty ladies from the local women's institute?'

Mind you, Gilly has never started a world war - not yet!
