Exceptions to the rule complicate things......... let everybody pay the same rate (which means the more you earn the more you pay).

Those in GENUINE need can then get direct help from the government/charity from other sources. I'd go for that on a local, community level where the local community would know best the circumstances of individuals. If those getting help didn't like it they could either get a job/better paid job or move out of Dodge because of the invasion of their privacy or give up and die - problem solved!

All the complications of multiple taxes distort the real cost of things.......... what does it cost with or without this and that tax - it's just a load of complexity we just don't need.

I quite like a purchase tax only concept too.......... one or the other but not both (income and purchase)

In the UK food and kids's clothing and books and newspapers are exempt from VAT (value added tax) - people on very low incomes spend most of their disposable income on food so that seems fair....... I still prefer the simple 10% tax on all of your income though!

We pay way too many taxes - one simple straightforward tax would be fine. Loads of tax consultants would lose their well-paid jobs, but so what?

That's good to hear - life has sometimes knocked 99% of the will to live out of me but that 1% never died and now life is very, very good!

I'm 50/50.

50% English and 50% Welsh.

I joined a Welsh Regiment.

People took the piss out of me for being English.

I was taller than most of them, though many were much stronger (some were ex miners - short, stocky little fuckers).

They thought I was a coward because I refused to fight them when they 'took the Mickey'.

I took part in the batallion boxing championships - I won every bout over a couple of years, but quit rather than risk potential brain injury in the Army championships...soooner or later somebody was going to beat the crap out of me!

I did some Aikido - about ten minutes worth in 13.5 years of service!

I've found myself in an awful position, one i never thought i'd find myself in.

After getting out of hospital, i found myself well having built up debt, and using all my savings to support my useless nephew put me between a rock and a hard place!

I took the 1st job i could find that would allow me to train as a driving instructor and pay me a wage, doing something manual in nature to rebuild my muscles...as they basically turned to putty with the pneumonia i caught from my scumbag nephew.

Today, i have to go to the boss, and put to him a solution to a crisis his company is in, because they want 5000 units of what i make a week.....from 2 shifts.....when the machine time is only capable of 4800, and this doesnt allow for any, and i mean any time the machines not working.....constantly for 16 hours a day.....5 days a week.

We are short one member of staff, the bloke who helps me is lazy, he will do as little as possible!

So, today i have to put to the boss a way out of the hole hes found himself in....and it means me working to 2am in the morning (thus a backbreaking 12 hour day).

Now i'm paid bugger all, i have legal bills that are 75 per cent of my wages each month....fixed utility bills of £400 a month before me or the cats eat......and i could use a tax break badly!!

Actually "up shit creak" fits my current precicament pretty acurately

Mind you if he agrees to my solution, i'll be tired all the time, but in 3 months i'll be on the level again.

I find myself working to live, rather than living to work....and both are bad

Good luck!

I actually chose the id 'rock_from_a_hard_place' several years ago somewhere else (chanfed it from 'classless_man').

Sometimes things seem impossible, but they aren't.

You're fighting and can see daylight in maybe three months, but if things don't work out right, do NOT despair!

Ah, i'm pretty good at the old Aikido, but the other type i was taught which isn't allowed by Japanese law now is Okinowa Karate.

This is for very good reason, it's only purpose is how to kill someone as fast as possible. It was pretty damn effective too.......Samurai had swords, everyone else was banned from carrying or owning a sword, which if i recall correctly was punishable by a summary death penalty if a sword was "discovered".

Thus this and other disciplines turned up, as a way to dispatch a very annoyed professional warrior with a sword coming towards you at a pace.

Any mugger that comes at me with a knife will lets say be in real trouble.

I've always thought shooting such an enemy a lot less physically intimidating than risking personal physical injury!

Hell, I've been REALLY poor at times in my life. I've even been unemployed and in receipt of benefit....but I really do believe that when employed, however little you earn, you can contribute something - then, even if it's just the widow's 'mite' (the smallest coin of the day) then nobody can put you down and say you do nothing and you have PRIDE - take away a person's pride and you take away his/her dignity, take away a person's dignity and you have a more unhappy person, make a person too unhappy and he/she will bite the hand that feeds it like an abused dog!

0 to 200 in 6 seconds

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.

She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the
driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 5.4 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke
up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box
gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought
the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday.

I believe, that in a secular state, we should all pay 10% tax on all our income.

By secular state I mean a government that isn't a religious organisation where state and religion are synonymous.

10% is a bloody lot! There are 365.25 days in an average year. 10% is 36.25 days worth of your hard-earned labour - it means you work FOR OVER A MONTH EACH YEAR FOR THE GOVERNMENT/YOUR COUNTRY!

Stuff all purchase taxes etc - we should ALL pay 10% just on our income - and make life simple!

You earn $100 a week - you pay $10 tax.

You earn $100,000 a week - you pay $10,000 tax.... the rich DO pay more!

If you are unemployed or poor your government can help you only if they can afford it - otherwise you'll have to rely on charity. Life can be tough, but then that's where charity comes in and if you need charity you have to swallow your pride - getting paid from the government is taking the taxes of your fellow citizens anyway, so you are fooling nobody!

The 10% on ALL EARNINGS should be compulsory... no f'ing tax breaks for ANYBODY - however, giving to charity (including churches, mosques etc should be voluntary).

Lefe should be simple - why do we have to make it so complicated?

I'm happy to 'give' one month's of my income to the government - I think that is enough..... what do YOU think?

Most religions advocate/advocated a 'tithing' of a tenth - that was historically in the days when most governments were also the religious leaders - we can't give 30%+ tax to the bloody government AND 10%+ to our churches or 'whatever', can we?

For many people who work 40 hours per week - it's only the last few minutes of the week that they earn anything for themselves as pocket money - after paying all their freaking taxes and bills........

I SAY 10% TAX IS A REASONABLE SUM - NO MORE AND NO LESS!
