My apologies. I misread your original post....... I thought the first bit in bold was your writing and then he responded. Come to think about it it wasn't 'your style' and 'QI' or 'IO' or 'IQ' can mean anything you want them to, I guess.

I've just been on a 12 day 'freestyle' cruise (Turkey,Egypt & Greece) -

it was a novel experience with an enormous choice of restaurants, bars, activities etc and with about 2,500 fellow passengers from all over the world......... luckily I was with the most attractive woman on the whole ship so I wasn't distracted by too many women - apart from the Salza dancing which was kinda fun (even if I ended up suffering from 'over-gyrated hips' and a touch of hyperventilation!).

12 days was enough for this particular type of cruise. I still want to cruise round New Zealand though...........and I am saving up to go in 2010.

A few years ago my dad wanted to take my mother on a six month round the world cruise (quite a few years ago as she hadn't had a massive stroke at the time).

My mum refused - she said that three months would have been more than enough; six months was way too long.

He grumbled for a year or so, then gave up trying to persuade her ... a few times they cruised on cargo ships - many cargo ships have about six luxury cabins for passengers and you get to eat with the Captain every night which can be interesting (unless the Captain is a pig and farts a lot).

a QI of 132 is not bad............ but wtf is a QI?

My IQ was measured a long long time ago at 156, but that was before age and fermented grape juice killed 'x' % of my brain cells.

I guess my IQ is below 132 now........... I used to be proud of my brains, but the IQ was compensated for by a lack of social skills and the inability to relax mentally.

You know that many people love sunbathing. Lying in the sun doing nothing would be total mental torture for me.

I'd rather have a lower IQ and a nicer personality and be able to chill out once in a while like normal people.

By the way, if you are going to continue posting emails in a public forum that guys have sent you I am going to have to stop writing you erotic emails - sorry, but I have my reputation to consider!

I like English. It's my native tongue.

One word really gets me.

It's spelt 'buoy'. In the ENGLISH language it is pronounced 'boy'.

For some strange reason Americans pronouce it 'boo-ee'.

Weird!

My theory is that some self-taught American read the word and decided that was the way it was pronounced. He was a big guy and packed a big gun. Nobody dared argue with him; so everybody started pronouncing 'buoy' as 'boo-ee' instead of the correct 'boy'.

That's Democracy in action for you!

I have to laugh at the French though getting apoplectic at 'Franglais' words creeping in like 'Le Hamburger' and 'Le weekend'.

I've always felt that socially I lack certain skills. I know I have been gullible in the past, but I've met many people via the internet since the beginning of this millennium and not a single person has been different from the character they have portrayed to me before we met 'face to face'.

The internet isn't just for dating, you know!

I've made quite a few friends via the internet, but ALL the women I met who I felt romantically attracted to also turned out to have the chemistry I hoped would be there but already had them as a friend so I was relaxed and confident.

It's a 'no lose' situation if you become friends first.

This is the logic. You make friends via the internet. You meet. One of two things should happen - either you remain friends in which case you have lost nothing............ or you become lovers and you are then you risk losing a friend but that's your choice and you can't moan about it after!

Christmas - should it be banned for all except kids?

Isn't it a shame that so many people feel sad and lonely and miserable and miss their loved ones at Christmas?

I had a paternal Grandmother (yup, the one I sincerely hated) who was always a miserable old moaning cow at Christmas (a bit like me but a female version!).

I think my grandfather died about Christmas time so she wanted everybody else to be miserable too - and objected to children being all happy and excited. I was only a kid, but I really deeply resented her attempts to spoil MY Christmas just because she wasn't happy with life.

We live in a global world.

Very few non-impoverished people live within a few miles of the family they were born to. Brothers and sisters have moved on - either hundreds of miles or emmigrated even further............. many of us never see our own parents at Christmas for decades, but we all miss that feeling of goodwill and that nuclear family identity - right?

This Christmas I'll be with my mum, but without my dad as he recently died.

My partner has spent 24th/25th December with a g/f come rain or shine for several decades, but she'll fly out here on 26th December.

Woohoo!

The New Year? A time of renewal of hope and a positive attitude to the future? A drunken night out that starts the New Year with a hangover and a sense of frustration?

We have choices.

I know this amazing old lady too; she's only 84 and was only married the once - for 63 years, six months and 23 days before her husband died.
She's been paralysed for almost five years but has been more concerned about me being down with a nasty virus than her own welfare.

She's my mother.

She has lots of interesting tales to tell, but I am always seem bad-tempered and irritated when with her. I find it hard to listen to her, and she seems to constantly ask me the most inane questions.

My son stayed with her for a few days before she moved into a hotel while I was away cruising. He was very patient and kind. Everybody sang his praises, saying what a quiet, nice, modest young man he is - totally unlike his father.
