I liked the movie Black Dahlia (also read the book by James Ellroy) - pretty good but dark - L.A. Confidential (the movie) is probably a bit better but Dahlia is pretty good - although it is both dark and twisted -going back to original film noir the classic Sweet Smell of Success with Burt Lancaster is brilliant and dark and twisted -
Black Dahlia is the only new one - it is now out on DVD-
I liked it but so much is so subjective - also dark but with a bit of humour is Pulp Fiction

Hope this qualifies because I did see it recently although it is an old classic flilm - and it blew me away - so good but very dark - Sweet Smell of Success with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis - so impressed am I that I had to share it here -
regarding Eragon - a dragon film I thought was really good was reign of fire - medieval dragons in the world of today - I don't think it got good reviews but I thought it was pretty good
Christian Bale starred

I really like the GM Silverado commercial with John Mellencamp singing on it - very tough quite patriotic ( in an American patriotic sense )- I have a ford truck btw.

Two films this weekend - one from the '50s, Sweet Smell of Success, classic film noir with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis - very dark, beautifully done - and a new one, not film noir but also dark - I am a long time fan of Burt Lancaster - heard a lot about this before but never watched it

second entry - this one is only about a year old
Lord of War. Nick Cage, not quite as good as the Sweet Smell of Success but pretty good overall - quite cynical overall but with a real point to it

Good question -
Here's a name that may not ring with too many music fans but I really liked Darby Mills ( both solo and with the Headpins) - she and Brian MacLeod were the key artists in the Headpins -
and a real great blues artist is Sue Foley -
Darby I have not heard about in a few years - Sue Foley is still recording her brand of guitar blues and has a new cd just out -
- these two artists are great but may not be on many lists
-but there are so many Canadian musicians - beyond Celine and Shania and Alanis -
anyone know Rita Chiarelli or Blackie and the Rodeo Kings?

I saw Stevie Ray and Jeff Beck along with Jeff Healey in Toronto on one night - I also saw Johnny Winter - in a small bar north of Toronto - funny I mentioned both Winter and Stevie Ray at a place where I was working and almost nobody knew who either of them were - mymy my - jeez what if I had mentioned the Fugs (not too well known to say the least) or some others - I guess I figured both Stevie Ray and Johnny were pretty well known -

Hi Adreanna
If I recall correctly the Golden Dawn was a mystic order that at one time Aleister Crowley was involved in - around 1900s or so - Crowley was an author and sort of a cult leader who wrote a number of books on Magick (his spelling) - he was quite notorious - he died in the 1940s - probably one of the most famous practitioners of black magic (according to some black magic)
he did a huge autobiography and was also the subject of several bios probably he is much better known than the golden dawn group
hope this helps some
take care

So now I have to add this just to make it more complicated - would I rather be hit on by a gorgeous sexy thing who is actually a woman in every way but one or would I rather be hit on by a woman who looks tougher and meaner and more masculine than most guys I have coffee with
Hmmm
take care Lionhearted

Okay not to get physical about this so a different approach - the music I listen to is older than most of the people I work with ( Stones, Janis Joplin Clapton,
Lou Reed Canned Heat etc)
Couse one of my young friends is in his 20s and he listens to big band and jazz - I don't know

Hi Lionhearted
I guess I am inclined to music questions - first I really liked the first Meat Loaf album Bat out of Hell which goes back a few years - I now have it on cd - I actually had it on vinyl (Remember vinyl?)
Also going way way back the Stones had a few great albums including beggars banquet and Sticky Fingers
Another one that works for me is Copperhead Road by Steve Earle

Cool topic -
Currently I have a Ford Ranger which I really like and a v-twin cruiser motorcycle (Honda Shadow ACE) which I am also really happy with - I guess I would like to have a Honda Valkyrie (a fair bit bigger engine) but the Honda which got me back into motorcycle riding after way too long has made me real happy
And for that matter the Ranger has been real good and I like it - five speed standard transmission
I guess if I had my lottery ticket come in I might opt for something a bit more exotic but I can't see myself in a Ferrari or Porsche maybe a Nissan 350 ZX
