Thank you for point of view and seeing through the hate.
Mastic, I see your views, but, just like an any debate, you open yourself to insult when you claim them as your beliefs. State them as an opinion, not your opinion, and it's harder for people to make personal attacks on you, and when they do, they look like jerks who are trying to take an objective debate to a personal level. Keep your opinions impersonal, your arguments become stronger, and people take you more seriously that way. Other than that, good comments. cheers handshake

I think you'll not find a queue of gay people outside a Catholic church hoping to be married. The vast majority would be happy with a civil service. And the church will come around. It wasn't so long ago when miscegenation laws were universally enforced by churches. And now who would stand for that?
Sir, I hardly speak of the Catholic church only, and, homosexuality is blatantly shown as a sin in the Bible. I am just of the belief that this country was designed in hopes for freedom in all aspects of life, and, waiting for the church to "come around" is hardly respecting their rights. The amish live an insanely conservative life, and we accept them because we promote their freedom. Even all of the rest of the civilized world feels that being against homosexuality is archaic and wrong, we, as Americans, should support Christianity's right to hold on to those ideals. Marriage, as it is performed now, is always done by an ordained minister of some religion (not always Christianity).... Doesn't allowing/forcing or allowing the creation of ministers who sanction gay marraige seem like an infringement on religious rights?

I like that civil union idea, there's no need to take it further than that. If gays feel like they have less rights after they are allowed civil unions, they only become hypocrates, forcing their views on a group of people that doesn't want to hear it.

Well, this thread seems to have gotten grossly out of hand..... Though, it seems no one has mentioned what, to me, seems like the obvious reason gay marriage is illegal:

Marriage (As western culture sees it) is a government/church sanctioned union between two people. The most important part of that statement being church. Marriage (once again, as we see it in the west) is a Christian tradition and takes place in a church with an ordained minister, in most cases. That being said, Christianity views homosexuality as a sin. When you view it with this logic, you can see that what the gays do by being married by a minister is undermine religious freedom by going against the church's ideals. They use a Christian's traditions (one of the holiest) while ignoring their teachings.

But, let's look at it from the other side. Gays want marriage rights so they can be recognized and their views be respected. They also want the tax break that comes with marriage. And these are reasonable request.

My opinion is that gays should be allowed to "marry." As in, they should reap the benefits of a marriage and be recognized as married by the government, but not the Christian church. Forcing the Christian church to ordain gay marriages is against a basic freedom of religion. So, long story short, government should let them marry, churches should not. There should be a compromise. Like a common law marriage.cheers

Just being honest
many of them have admitted that they are distant, too serious, etc.
so im just quoting and agreeing with them
laugh Well, I guess it's better to be honest than to post about too many sensitive, warm, funny, and loving guys around, 'cause that would be a total lie. "It seems like all I can find lately is guys who want to cuddle during a good movie, talk with me for hours, and grow really close to me in an affectionate loving relationship. Where are all the cold, heartless guys who view me as a prize and an object they can brag about?" laugh But, seriously, there are guys out there who like to read and share things, and some of them even put the seat down.... I'm not joking.... I knew a guy like that once, though. But, he died from overdosing on estrogen.... Alright, I was joking about that last part.

LOL!
well I dont want perfection.. just a genuinely nice guy
Im tired of meeting the same guys.. none of which seem warm and loving but instead cold and distant with no sense of humor.
Cold and distant with no sense of humor? That's the most terrible thing I've ever heard... Well, don't feel to bad, I've never dated a guy. And perfection was a dumb game, I'm more of an "Operation" guy:

"Is it water on the knee?"
"OPERATION!!"

...now you guys got me thinking...

Pictures from another era.
You know, it's really nice to share those memories & all but lets try sticking to recent images.
If you're over 20, your HS graduation pictures are not current. Period.
I have actually seen profiles for people 40+ where the pictures are obviously from the days of disco.
*slaps head...

The family snapshot.
Ok, if you are divorced, please do not post family snapshots with the wifey.
It's a bit insulting... to everyone. At the very least, put a big black blob over that side of the image.
Either you've moved on... or you know the rest of that story.

Contradicting information.
If you say you want to find an old fashioned girl, don't expect her to pay for the first dinner, or find your lack of manners enchanting.
This, quite simply, means you are daft as ink.
It also qualifies you to be entered in the Darwin Awards.

I'm sure I'll think of more later...
:P
Daft as ink? You are quite the cynic, however agreeable your statements may be, I imagine that internet-dating site related suicides have tripled as a direct result of your all-encompassing profile critiques..... But, don't take my word for it, remember, kids, reading is your key to unlocking a new world of mystery, intrigue, science, and fun.... You can find these statistics and more at your local library.

What dangers are there of plageurism on a sight like CS? If I posted my writing, could someone steal it without me being able to legally prove it was mine first? confused

I agree with mom, but, when you're writing a poem about true emotions, don't be afraid to slash conformity, sometimes free verse helps keep your heart on paper, and not just your mind.....

And because Maynard is the greatest lyricist of all time (I love Tool lyrics):

Lateralus
-Tool

Black then white are, all i see in my infancy.
Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
Lets me see.

As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are, all i see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see
there is so much more and beckons me
to look thru to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind.

Feed my will to feel this moment, urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

(I embrace my
desire to 2x)
feel the rhythm, to
feel connected,
enough to step aside and,
weep like a widow, to
feel inspired, to
fathom the power, to
witness the beauty, to
bathe in the fountain, to
swing on the spiral, to
swing on the spiral, to

swing on the spiral of
our divinity and
still be a human

With my feet upon the ground I move myself between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out. I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
(Spiral out. Keep going. 4x)

Reflection
-Tool

I have come curiously close to the end, down
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole.
Defeated, Concede and move closer. I may find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness.
How pitiful.
(It's calling me. 3x)
It's calling me

And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping.
The moon tells me a secret.
My confidant.
As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own
A million light reflections
pass over me
It's source is bright and endless. She resuscitates the hopeless.
Without her we are lifeless satellites drifting.
And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't want to peer down here serving my narcissism
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
(before I pine away. 3x)
pine away.
before I pine away.

I really dislike the fact that so many girls say that they want guys who "are down to earth" or "don't play games." What kind of games are they talking about? Video Games? Board Games? How can a girl say in the same profile "I like sports" and then "I don't like games." That doesn't make any sense! But seriously, girls, If you're looking for a "Down to earth guy who doesn't play games," I wouldn't get my hopes up on the internet.... especcially if you're talking about video games.
