So, who is right, me for not believing in a greater power, or you for believing in one.

No where in that last post did you make any reference to anyone else but yourself.

This is my whole point. No one has told you to do these things, these are decisions that you made on how you feel. No one gives you feelings, we all feel differently about the same things. We are conditioned by all our outside influences (parents, doctrine, education) from a very early age, and only when we have all the information that we think we need, do we then make a decision.

Do I have milk or lemon with my tea? Neither! Both are disgusting.

A choice? Then a decision based on past experience.

Religion is a method by which we are controlled and manouevered into believing that without the crutch of a greater being, that we cannot hope to survive. If we do by some bizarre stroke of luck manage the impossible, then we have to atone for our sins. Only by embracing someone, thing or ideal do we get absolution for something that we are yet to commit.
So ... again ... if you dont do this, then you are in for a whole world of trouble.

The 10 commandments. "Thou shallt not kill" well, unless its convenient to do so i.e. asked to do so by your employer - the Armed Forces.
Its one rule for one, and another rule for someone else.
We are all equal in the eyes of God, but some are more equal than others!

Dont get me wrong here (because this could get misunderstood) I am only replying to guys request to explain myself.

I am positive that there are people who can be or are in touch with entities that I have no knowledge of.

I believe in the power of one. Me. If it is going to happen, only I can make it happen. Or it will happen without me.
I cannot fathom betrothing myself to an entity that only give solace to people it deems to be worthy of it.

Following the tenets of Catholicism confounds me. Believing that there is only one true God, and the prophet Mohammed came down from a mountain to preach that Allah is the only God is as alien to me as beleiving that there are beings that have used the pyramids in Egypt for bases for their landing craft. That Norse mythology was founded by little green men.

It just doesnt float my boat.

Why do you feel the need to ... "turn my will and my life over to the care of an entity greater than myself in order for me to have a better understanding of myself and others as well as a clear direction where I am going in my life."

Can you not determine your own direction?
You are a living breathing animated intelligent self-aware free-thinking woman.
Why do you feel that you have use other methods than your own reasoning?

If these are questions that you dont feel like you have to answer to me, and that I have upset you by asking them, or the tone of the questions is too aggressive, then I wholeheartedly apologise. It is not or was not my intention to get into a philosophical debate, as religion is a personal thing. If I have caused distress, to anyone, then again, I apologise.

I dont understand it. But I do not decry others who do. I cannot. How can I say "you are wrong for being a Christian, a Muslim or a Jew" when I myself am decried by each of these religions as being a non-beleiver.

Oh here we go.

God is a state of mind.
The beleif in God is borne from the need to conform to other's way of thinking.
There is no concrete physical proof that God/Allah/Buddha/Jehovah/JC/Thor/Odin/Aphrodite ever existed.
Only a collection of "selected" stories that have been passed down.

Religion is all about subjugation. The major religions are all about "love, peace, and understanding" and yet wars are caused in the name of religion, and senseless suffering is caused because one person's God says that another persons God is wrong

IF, and I stress this in a very BIG way, If there was a God, then why would he let his people batter the crap out of each other?
Why would he let people die that should have a long and fruitful life. These people would have made further positive enhancements to the human race.
and all this stuff about "His master plan" How do we know God isnot a woman.

I am sorry guys to bash your religion, and I dont wish to be personal, but you asked for my opinion, and this is it.

I follow a way of life that is almost socially acceptable.
I dont kill anyone (as much as I want to sometimes) I dont steal other peoples possessions, I dont try and break up marriages and I continuously try to improve myself.

This is my dogma, and I dont need anyone to tell me that it is right or wrong. If I do something that is socially unacceptable, the laws or the people of the country I am in at the time will tell me.

So, why do I need someone that says, "If you dont follow me, then I am going to send you to hell"
Hell is a place I dont want to go so I am being blackmailed into following him/her it.

Islam says what ever you do you will go to heaven. Good start!
But it also says that the more tenets of the Prophet Mohammed you follow the closer you will get to Allah.

Ahhh, more inducements. 40 virgins for eternity! Bleeding hell, I couldnt handle one virgin when I was alive, what am I going to do with 40 when I am dead?

But you see it is all about you do something for me or I will not give you this when you die.

What creed is God? What skin colour does Jesus Christ have? Are they chinese?

Theres nothing that anyone can do to convince me that going to a church/synagogue/mosque/temple will bring me closer to a being that is trying to barter for my affection.

I have waited patient all day, can a guy ever get a break instead of a broke bone,lol?
