Since this post was started awhile ago, I have been able to see the outcome and am now able to share it with every one concerned here.

I agree with gmh74. I allowed my anger to interfere with the discipline and that was not cool. I have never physically punished and rarely yell so when I did lose it, it made my son realize the magnitude of his disrepect.

The outcome was - my son spent the next 3 days with his dad and apologized for his lack of respect. When he came home, we talked. We both admitted we could have handled it differently, and we both apologized to each other.

My daughter (12) asked me the same question the other day.
My parents have been married for 40 years, her other grandparent for over 40 years.
Go to a school nowadays and look in a class full of children. Two of those kids have their parents still together and the rest lives with mom or dad.

Try to organize a birthday party for you child......Cost more energy to figure out who is where than having 10 kids running around rolling on the floor laughing

If children already came prepared knowing right and wrong they wouldn't need parents...I will discipline my children...there are no handbooks on how to do this so for the most part i wing it every day..and on occasion...yes...i make the wrong choice because contrary to popular belief parents make mistakes too!!

Don't beat yourself up over it...you'll remember the next time and perhaps handle it differently...
I totaly agree with you. Have apologized to my kids about stuff what I should have handled better/different.
And I discipline my children too but try to do it the way I want them to treat other people, meaning no hitting and screaming....

I agree on the screaming part. I have a 14 yr old who constantly screams back.
she is 14 going on 30, so ofcurse she knows it all. Screaming is only way she will hear me
The screaming and yelling is never gonna stop this way...... Children learn from examples. Maybe the oldest one (mom) should try to break the cycle.

My guard has always been down. Maybe not good either. With me is pretty much "what you see is what you get." I carry my past experiences around as learning experiences. Unfortunately I'm not always a fast learner, lol.

But over the last few years I really learned to listen to my gutinstinct.
And one rotten apple and a few bruised ones doesn't make me think that that's all there is.thumbs up

I would not spend not too much time on a man like that. Would have my cry, dust myself off and move on. I know that sounds pretty easy but they,re not worth my time.
Move on girl and don't be too hard on yourself comfort

I was lonely in my last relationship. Now I'm alone (with kids) but certainly not lonely.
And by bedtime I'm too damn tired to be lonely. And there is something to say for having the bed to yourself.....
