Raven,

When I lost my beloved cat (who had been with me for almost 18 years) last March, I made a memory book of him which included some poems that helped me deal with the grief. I hope these poems give you some comfort.

A friend sent me this:

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you.
I loved you so,
'twas Heaven here with you.
-- Isla Paschal Richardson

This is my grief speaking:

"Requiem"
The missing piece,
Irretrievable,
Becomes my nexus,
Binding me
Inescapably.

Small moments,
Tiny rituals,
Buried in yesterday's memories
Push to the front of my consciousness,
Looming,
Demanding
Obeisance,
Remembrance,
Sentinels
Of absence.

My world
Bottoms out from under me,
And the love
That once promised so much
Lessens not the pain
That now cuts
Deeply.

Helpless,
I surrender
To tears,
Each one echoing
The silence of my grief.

Saying goodbye is never easy.
Saying the last goodbye
Never ends.
-- By Yours Truly

Early U2 ("I Threw a Brick Through a Window" among other songs) cuz after tonight's date, I really, really need some hard core drums and guitar to pump up my life. Or at least make me feel that way for the moment.

Definitely! This is one of many reasons that my last long-term relationship disintegrated. He could never understand anyone's viewpoint other than his own. Anyone who disagreed with him or who moved in a tangential direction on whatever topic was "missing the point."

If you're someone who likes to expand your mind and your intellect by actually listening and debating, it can become a huge source of mutual entertainment and intellectual growth - and the fact that you CAN discuss the differences will only bond you as a couple even more.

Well said! I have found that this occurs more and more in my life, notably with people that I couldn't discuss politics or religion with to save my life. I now enjoy point-counterpoint discussions a great deal. I think that, during my years at university, I was actually educated somewhere along the line.

Nothing will ever beat good old exercise

I agree. I'm very skeptical about the countless ways that the pharmaceutical industry tries to convince people to pop a pill instead of looking at the underlying problem. And the problem is that many people do not structure their lives to get enough healthy exercise. The answer is not giving them a pill that allows them to continue sitting on their arses.

Second funniest thing I've read this morning!

Yeah we want honesty, and we've got a right to decide if what a man has to offer is what we want. That's not being judgemental, it's being discriminating, which by the way is not a bad word!

Well said! Thank you!

I don't know. You women. You ask for honesty from a man and you can't handle it. OK, he's on the bottom rung of the entrapreneurial ladder. He did create an employment oppertunity for his previous partner and it seems managed her financial affairs ( and financial affairs seems quite apt here) for her.

He seems to be currently involved in advertising following as well as media distribution.

He comes from a close familly, a very close familly and he clearly values the way to you add to his life.

Personally I'd vote for him. What on earth is wrong with you woman?

I can give you his phone number. wink

Sienne,

I agree with you that you should run far, far away. But I doubt this guy is lacking in social skills. To me it sounds like he's very manipulative. He tells you all this crap to tug at your heart strings.

I have met dozens of men like this. They have all these problems they can't control and they are perrenial victims. It's always, "Not there fault". But with your love and understanding, they can become great men!.......yeah right!!!!!

Unfortunately there are just enough airheads out there who fall for this garbage. And there will always be people who tell you "Don't judge him, give him a chance."

It's guys like the one you talked to that make me want to throw my computer out the window

Thanks for saying this! I've also come across a few people like this in my life, just never in the dating world.

Even if this man was honest with me (and I believe he was), I am not in a position to give him the psychological/emotional/financial help he needs. I can't take on that kind of burden.

Maybe I'm in the wrong profession.

Yeah, it seemed a little fishy to me that he could support someone else on paper delivery and flyer distribution.

I either go to bed (if it's late enough) or do some kind of exercise. The activity helps to clear my head. Then I can either think more clearly or go to sleep and deal with it tomorrow.

Sorry for whatever is giving you a rough night.

Normally, I do. There were problems (supposedly) with email/messaging, so we switched to the phone. *sigh*
