as A truck driver, I can say that it does work. I talk to my wife several hrs. every day, play online with her and when I do get home the time we have together is quality. for us it works, though it takes two dedicated, strong people to make any relationship work. but as some people have already commented, we talked about it and decided that it was better to do a job you like than to be mizerable and be home every day.
as for what people think of "us" in general. I have gotten to the point of not caring too much. I obey the laws, dont have anything to do with drinking, or women. its a job and one that must be taken serously (sp) all the time. think about it, most of the time the truck is grossed out at around 78,000 lbs. the average car is 2,000 lbs. think its easy going down a 7% 13 mile grade.
