The most vivid war pic of all time to me was that little Vietnamese girl running screaming with most of her clothes burnt off with agent orange/napalm........... that should be used everywhere for anti-war purposes, and to remind young men and women that war is never something fun and exciting for civilians, let alone combatants.

They should use that pic with the caption:

'You want to fight? This little girl could be your sister!'

In my first war in Biafra, some of us had to watch the long lines of refugees, mostly women and children by the hundreds in lines along jungle roads being roasted alive by napalm dropped by pilots from Britain, Poland, East Germany and Cuba....the stench was so bad we had to abandon our OP's. Those of us who had volunteered to try and help Biafra never could understand what kind of person would deliberately drop napalm on those people....The worst of it was we could not shoot the planes down as whatever artillery we had was defending our one landing strip. Thousands must have been roasted alive. Near the end, grim humour took over and a song of bliss and cheer became , "Biafrans roasting on Napalm fires..."
Lots of photos around of all that but rarely published in the UK, as they had sided with Nigeria...(oil)

should I confess my strange ideas as to who really would have made great presidents for the US....Malcom X...I could understand from where he was coming from; truthful and charismatic...same with Russel Means of the American Indian Movement and for the WASPS' well, George Lincoln Rockwell of the White Peoples Party...aka The American Nazi Party....forget ol' David Duke, way too insincere and a cheap opportunist to boot. Good public speaker though.... naw, I don't think so. %)

Today is Remembrance Day.
Time to have a few Minutes of Reflection.

Reflect on what....the stupidity, the futility of wars...
It is not 'us' versus 'them' anymore; hasn't been for some time now; it is all of us versus war that threatens all of us.
Under the 'right' circumstances, those who want war; a war will seemingly always get it as opposed to the majority of all of us.
I've been through several , some 'won', many for 'lost causes' but not necessarily wrong causes, yet despite having survived them, I do question the need for the remembrance day, veterans day parades and such. Those times, are long over and done with. Those issues are as long dead as the majority of the soldiers, the innocent civilians that died so long ago. What is needed is a unification day to remember what unites us all, not what has divided us without any need for any 'pomp and circumstance' as that only continually seeks to keep us all divided into alleged 'winners' and losers'. We should be past all that and not promote it.
I love the military as an integral institution in our cultures. It provides many things for many. If we wish to ever put our old uniforms on and go parading about, then fine, all could simply have a Military Parade day for all veterans from around the world and delight on all the different uniforms , as I remember watching the Bastille Day parades in Paris as a child when France and all its colonial troops marched down the Champs Elysee with their horses and camels and capes 'blowing in the wind'...in those 'winds of change' as it were...what a sight!

The 'powers that are' are still firmly in place; they are the agents of many of those omnipresent ubiquitous alphabet soup combination's. It doesn't matter if there is a regime change or not for any combination of them to take him or anyone out. That is what Obama must watch out for, the 'alphabet soup crowd'. So far the two heaviest betting is if he survives to even take the oath, second is if he survives to serve out his term. People are not about to forget JFK, MLK or RFK...

I have always been suspicious of nuclear power - simply in that what comes too easy must have a payback somewhere. Time will tell with nuclear waste, but for now I wouldn't want to see a huge ramp-up in installing new plants.
We have Yucca Mountian in Nevada for a dumping site for that watse . I'm not convinced that just because the material is stored very deep underground - it's not gonna be a huge problem for next generations.
And that's really the thinking here right ? "Let's make ourselves comfortable now - the mext generation can fix it later "

Tragically, horribly, this still seems to be the fixed idea of those in charge of the 'nuclear industry'. And don't forget the Savanah River complex or the several sites spread over the Handford (Hanson?) weapons complex in the northwest.
Chernobyl and Pripyat are seemingly but preludes to more of the same. In fact see the photos from these 2 places in a large photo book entitles "Zones Of Exclusion: Pripyat And Chernobyl by Robert Polidori, from Steidl Publishers 2003. Talk about nightmares of the immediate future...

One big problem which many people don't like to think about as if by ignoring it somehow it will just go away, is nuclear waste. The rush to "save the planet" from global warming by building nuclear power plants may prove to be a very bad choice at some time in the future if we don't solve this problem.

Excellent!! Many of us share this sentiment also.
From various 'grapevines' some are hearing is that France is having some serious problems around their plants with ground contamination that is affecting far more than just the soil, enough so that a few of their top nuclear scientists have left the country due to refusals to take their warnings seriously and stop any further plants from being built...

I 'm trying my darnest not to mention this as much as I used to but...my most life changing experience was when my husband passed away a year ago.
I felt so empty inside cause I didn't have my best friend , my protector and my lover around anymore.

I'm sorry I can't say anymore.

Death of my wife leaving me with 2 small children, one of whom was only 2. It was a profound change to say the least.
Deaths have an incalculable effect upon our lives. They are never really gotten over nor ever totally left behind despite all attempts to leave it behind.
Others were: leaving the military...lost all my comrades over the years in various wars. Reasons evaporated for staying.
Having to emigrate to Canada for several years. One 'marriage' that ended in annulment, then the last one and trying to work and raise 2 children ; sort of still continuing...
Trying to re-adjust to civilian life was very difficult. Lots of problems and frustrations.
And finally being able to return Home to Europe. Enough is enough.

I should not that there is another aspect to these developments. Many scientists are incorrigible dreamers and I've met some who had been fascinated as children by the science-fiction stories they read as children(ie. most of the leading rocket scientists). Their attitude was 'why not'; lets make it real. They had the training, education and tools to try, just as today many of the devises from the Star Trek series have spurred real hard research on making some real as with the ubiquitous 'triquarter' scanner for medical diagnosis...inspiration is all around us and some thankfully can actually do something about making things we all need real.

Germany is a world leader in solar and alternative energy right ? What do you think initiated the mentality change there to this direction ?

Prior to WW2, many projects were started in the 'Nordic Countries' involved research into solar energy and its uses as well as on going projects from the turn of the century experiments with alternative energies which received a huge boost from the works of Nicholas Tesla. At the same time, there were the simultaneous experiments on 'heavy water' needed to produce the atomic bomb...sort of a one hand doesn't know what the other is doing; not much has changed in that 'contest' we are still working for both ways to live and means to kill more of us...hopefully, our collective mentality is for life and not death, either by the misuse of atoms or by misuse of the harnessing of the sun's power.
After the war, the research projects started again and experiments done asap ; this is what I think tipped the balance to go full speed, positive results that solar energies could be tapped and produce so many facets as has the projects on wind power and electrical energies from that.

I wanted to address this post carefully.
I think it´s a very interesting point of view you have. It´s made me think, because I avoid fanatism and radicalism as much as I can, but thinking about it, I´m a radical myself, so I´ll have to do some thinking about that.
Your country supports many environment protection programs around the world and is one of the countries with the highest ratio of protected forest. How do you see those programs, do you think the money is being well invested or is it just for show off?
How´s the money raised internally and who defines the policies on its application?
Those are the first questions I´m curious about, but feel free if there´s anything else you know and may want to tell us about.

So far the majority of all the various ecological/ green groups are fairly pleased with the responses from the eco-friendly programs funded by the government agencies and by private corporations. Their green philosophies are expanding due to the constant involvement of groups and private citizens in their strong directions as to what will help the local and international environmental interests, as after all, the better the better the environment is, the better it is for people to prosper and care for it. Our forests are extremely important to us and if you look into all the related projects that cover soil conservation, reclamation, to the continuing seeding and harvesting methods and are now tied in with the cleaner air projects the inter connective factors are indeed having a positive effect throughout all of Europe. Mutually beneficent projects for all rivers including those in many areas of Russia are beginning to show positive results which actually shows promise among the younger generation even in Russia to get totally involved. They also wish to keep their forests and expand them as we have all come to realize, trees help clean the air we breath and factory technology needs to drastically change in regards to polluting emissions. Toxic pollutants in our air drift around our world thus are a danger to all. Many of us think that these toxic clouds should be included in all weather news but there is much opposition to this . Hopefully this will also be overcome as this new aspect gains support. Hopefully the Ministry on the environment will feel the pressures of the health concerns enough to in turn pressure the media to make it a regular report. Hopefully this will embarrass those creating these toxic clouds into cleaning their act up or to shut their operations down. Mutual concerns for mutual survival.
If it is of any help, read any of the books by Fritjof Capra to understand our interconnectedness of all living systems. %)

By "serious" I mean are you involved in any work concerning the environment, as a volunteer or through your job in any way, or are you an activist, that sort of thing...

I have always liked and prefer 'radicals' be it political, environmental or social. There is always something of intrinsic value from their perspectives as most serious problems , radical measures are needed to correct the imbalances that the problems cause and right now, all the problems are rather dangerous to all of us, so radical solutions are needed.
As for the environment, for example, I have always supported the 'Earth First' radicals in various ways, same for many of the political and social 'extremists' and radicals be they 'left' or 'right'. Radicals exist usually because no one else wants to actually solve the problems, especially by half measures that never actually work or solve anything but only make matters worse over the long term; to paraphrase a well known radical/ extremist, 'Give me Radicals or give extremists but do not give me moderates! %)

Totally agree but as we all know, all laws and all proposed laws are , after the lawyers write them, debated by lawyers who are also politicians and are usually re-worded so as to allow open interpretations and are passed by politicians who are usually lawyers...yes, something is drastically wrong here.
It will always be wrong so long as the judiciary branches of government remain under the politicians, be it the writing, wording of,passing of laws and the political appointment of judges. A truly independent judicial system cannot and will not ever exist under politicians, much less for the people. Judges are nominated, grilled in some cases, depending how high up the system they are to preside over to the satisfaction of politicians. Any meaningful sense of 'justice' equally applied to ALL is therefore negated at the onset of the entire procedure,
If existing and proposed laws are under any political jurisdiction, then any applicable 'equality' is rendered academic; null and void without any hope of 'justice for all'...A better system needs to be constructed to assure an independent judiciary system and equal coverage of all laws to everyone, regardless of any , race, colour, creed or political affiliations...or income or position in any level of government or society at large. As long as judges are appointed by politicians, they are open to corruption by the very politicians that appoint them as are all laws rendered inapplicable to politicians so righteously defended by their lawyers , whose colleagues write those laws.... They just may as well add open addendum to all law statutes that 'all laws herein do not pertain to politicians , rich people, famous celebrities, etc. etc. Hell, at least that would be open and honest. It would be the politician's way of saying to all normal, everyday people: 'F... You! We do as we please!'

After all the carnage, damages and financial disasters no one needs republicans or their mentality around. Ban them from ever returning to any power.
