In an age where hyphenated names are common (one of my favorites was a lady named "Bang" and a guy named "Lamb" - hyphenated to "Lamb-Bang"...guess that was preferable to "Bang-Lamb? ), and where couples often retain their own last names, how do you feel about the subject?

I'm particularly curious whether women and men who haven't been married tend to view this issue differently from those who have been married previously.

I've never understood why any woman would give up her own family's birth name; her identity as it were.
I know where from the custom comes: a total corruption from our ancient 'tribal days' wherein the bride /wife inherited her husband's title or as he was from the tribal aristocracy, he had the power to bestow a title upon her. Commoners of course adopted and corrupted this over time.
The old aristocracy throughout Europe always amalgamates the family surnames by hyphenating them or they use the higher title, especially in any royal branch. The idea of a woman good enough to marry and then giving up her surname is simply absurd, never mind demeaning to her and her family as well as his. It is a loss of both personal and familial pride. We are all who we are.

If any country dares presume to tell other countries how to live , what to believe in and more importantly, what to not believe in, what they can and cannot do, by the use of force, the threat of force or any form of coercion or by financing the elections of its chosen puppets to be put into power of any country is certainly not a 'democratic' country by any stretch of the imagination. It is the very antitheses of democracy.
If in four years time there is any free countries left, or if world wide civil unrests that both violent and directed at a country that insists on it as the all knowing, all powerful planetary ruler, then its so called 'democratic elections should be radically changed as to truly reflect the actual realpolitic of the world. All citizens of every country must be allowed to then vote for its 'fearless leader' President or whatever other innocuous title the figurehead may decide to call themselves.
This in actuality seems the only fair and sensible manner in which the so called 'leaders' of the 'free world' should be elected, as the choice of leader does intimately affect each and every person on this planet in some form or another. Especially as regards to wars or peace, starvation, slavery, Freedom or rebellion against such global tyranny.
The time to start this change to a global election based on this so called democratic system should begin the day after this current farce is over. Time to let the people of the world have a say as to who can rule their world. ('Power to the People'! )

In all the years that I had lived in the US, I never had a problem with obtaining any form of license for a weapon, be it a pistol or a fully automatic machine gun. In fact the ATF loved it when applying for a license to have a fully automatic weapon, even artillery pieces that were fully functional. It was revenue for them in the form of taxes. Any sale from the owner to others also meant high taxes and sometimes transference fees. If you do not have a criminal record, you're perfectly eligible to obtain the proper gun licenses to buy, sell or even manufacture guns. It is no big deal.
As for the 'leveling' of of the so called playing field, I have always believed in that every person( ie. registered voter, or holder of a social security card, or who has filed income taxes), should be given a gun by their government...with due respect to the person's personal choice of gun, of course. Why the hell not...
However what I do find dangerous is the total lack of any type of controls on the manufactoring of 'illegal' guns, 995 of which are hand guns. No regulations, no controls and certainly no supervision of those that make them, let alone sell them, especially in the US. The so called 'Saturday night specials' are not all imported, many are made in the states. Where is the FBI or ATF? Same in Mexico, Where are the
Federales? No where to be found near any plants making these cheap guns , of which many blow-up in the hands of users, btw...(they'd be the 'unsavoury elements' anyway, so who cares...) The point is, people are hired to make them, assemble them: there are no 'incentives' for anyone to turn in, tip-off the ATF people....they may only after delivery of shipments to any 'suspicious' legitimate gun dealer shop, who keeps no records and has them sold by someone from the trunk of their car as I've seen many times including military assault rifles from unregistered owners needing the cash.... Own the weapon legally, you can up the selling price a minimum of 500% ; the buyer, when they sell it, does the same...all legal; the ATF will even help you fill out the proper paper work! Even for a rocket launcher with rockets!!
Wish to buy a fully functioning tank? Get a list from the Government surplus auctions and sites, you really do not need to dismantle the weapons system; sign the agreement and drive it away...tell them you are going to use it as a tractor...many farmers have actually done this...far cheaper than going into hock over a John Deer tractor..%D

there is a famous Spanish joke about bull testicles. There is also a tradition of eating the testicles of a bull defeated in a bullfight.

A man goes into a restaurant and orders a dish of fried testicles - cojones fritos, or whatever the dish is called. mmmm delicioso. he thinks. He recommends the restaurant to all his friends - you just gotta try the cojones fritos in that place - he rails. A while later he goes back to the restaurant and again orders his favourite dish of cojones fritos but, much to his disgust, the cojones are very small. Why, he enquires, are these testicles so small? the waiter tells him - because Sir, the bull doesn't always lose.

His new book includes recipes for testicle pizza, calf testes in wine and testicles with bourgignon sauce. A team of economists from the US and Britain have finally finished a study which claims that having a good sex life is worth about $50,000 a year to the average person, while being married being almost as much as $100,000.
Their research involved interviews with almost 100,000 subjects and tried to establish what value people place on their sex lives and marriages.
"The financial values that we calculated are what it would cost to compensate someone for a happy marriage in money terms", said Dartmouth College economist David Blanchflower.
Their results showed that most people would need about an extra $50,000 in yearly income to equal the contentment they receive from their sex lives. Sex psychologist Perruska Clarson added," I think that figure is an underestimate. Sex reduces stress, increases our immune system and reduces pain. Regular sex improves not only your physical health but your mental health." (Sunday Times)

HOWEVER, ON THE OTHER HAND, we have this side:
A German study has found that having an affair can be deadly for men...
Not because their wives might have them killed if they found out, but because men are about twice as likely to die during sex with their mistresses than with their wives.
Research done at the Centre For Forensic Medicine in Frankfurt studied over 30,000 deaths covering the last 30 years and have found that 60 men had died during sex, almost all by heart attack. While only one in four died in the arms of their wives, over half of them died during an unfaithful fling and the rest died during masturbation.
While one possible explanation may be that the added stress of having sex during an affair may have caused the heart attacks, but the researches' only conclusion was that the men were trying harder to impress their extra-marital lovers and that extra effort caused enough strain on their hearts to kill them...
Talk about the old routine of 'dying with a smile on your face'!rolling on the floor laughing
