What if scenario....What if the Matchmaker was the one being asked about or doing the asking? I would no think it appropriate, because it could be an abuse of power.

Kev I am not indicating any such ideal as shallowness. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there has to be some instant attraction. I know a few stunningly beautiful women who I am hard pressed to give the time of day to, and some whom would be perceived as common who would knock the proverbial socks off any man willing to take the time to just stop and inhale their inner beauty. We are creatures of our senses first and foremost but I feel that this approach has left many seeking far beyond what they need and truly desire. Society's obsessions have blinded us to many wonders before us. Pride holds deep to too many hearts and is a major tyrant in controlling the eyes and attempting to drive the heart.
No one should settle for less that what they truly desire yet can we as a population quick to abandon what we have for the new, truly say that our current perception of what we need is working?

So many divisive and often misguided comments, so little time....

Hilly, for God's sake....
The great percentage of postings from people here who are not American are NOT bashing America; they are bringing issues to the table for open discussion and debate. They may indeed be opposed to some policies, but are we, as Americans, so indoctrinated in the "My Country, Right or Wrong" mindset that we refuse to even accept that we ARE occasionally wrong? And, as Detente says, I am NOT my country. I am a citizen of my country, but I am also a citizen of the world, and it behooves me to educate myself about the world in which I live in order to BE a better American! Nobody is trying to wear you down or entice you to abandon your patriotism, myself included. But blind following of all things red, white, and blue is not in our best interest. We MUST be willing to dissent (and it is indeed one of our freedoms as Americans, as is true in democratic societies the world over); we must be willing to take a step back and truly look at things with an open mind and eyes wide open. It's ok if you do this and still reach the same conclusions that you hold, but it sounds as if you will defend everything that our government does, no matter what. If this is true, will you do the same when the next administration comes to power? Adopting the viewpoint that everything our government does deserves our support is, in fact, having no viewpoint whatsoever. And THIS is what's sad. Dissent, conflicting ideas...these are part of the very foundation of our nation....yet you have no tolerance for it when it comes from anyone who bears allegiance to a different flag.
We ARE a great nation. We ARE a powerful nation. We DO many great things throughout the world; we are humanitarian people and we are giving and we are many wonderful things. But we don't always get it right. We just don't and shouldn't claim to. To adopt such a stance IS arrogant and is simply wrong.
It's rather funny....here I am, an American working in a U.S. Embassy overseas, asking another American to relax a bit and try to be more objective. 3 days from now is the one-year anniversary of the RPG attack against our embassy. I know what anti-Americanism truly is; healthy discussion is not anti-Americanism. Let's not get our backs up because other viewpoints are aired. Keep on loving the U.S....there's a lot to be said for that...but love it for the right reasons and, like a parent loves a child, recognize that it's not perfect.
I have to agree with you on this. I have no choice. Most Americans do not know what it means anymore. WE became this nation because we did not want to follow a government blindly, yet most Americans today seem to. But there again most Americans today will not fight for freedom, but just let it passively slip away piece by piece.

I've been told my slow methodical approach has caused me to miss out on potential love interests.

I believe if its the real deal it will not be denied, something, someway, call it kismet, fate or just sheer luck whatever term we use "love" will not be denied its existence. Love is a living organism as such it needs to to develop, grow, adapt just as all other lifeforms.
I have that slow methodical approach as well. And I also think entirely too much!

I would be the one to let go if i see that someone even the little bit unhappy with me or even remotely interested in another. Nope, its not ego issues. But cos its about seeing him happy at the end of the day.

The one who truly seeks you will be there for u beyond all odds.

There will be no expectations nor turmoils.

Just pure depth of feelings to make all the difference.

I dont believe in keeping or holding them back but letting them go to be themselves so if you truly are admired , there will be no going anywhere.

Its not really about living your life together but spending the time you have in hand like a lifetime together !!
thumbs up

Shyness has definitely been an enemy to my "dating" life ........ been too shy to let people know I'm interested in them ....... insecurities as well have stopped me .................... hopefully I'm getting past this as I age - but I still admit to battling it at moments.
I have this problem as well....One would not think that considering what you know of me so far, but I do have it. The carpe diem in me becomes Carpe don't when I am really interested in someone.frustrated moping blues

I do the same thing every year....I buy huge bags of candy and pass it out to ALL the women at work. To certain close friends of mine I also give them cards. I feel no matter what the situation NO woman that I know should go without at least some gesture on Valentine's Day.

I also do that at Christmas as well.

Funny u should ask that question.. flatmate and I spoke of similar today...

Personally I don't think the society we currently live in is geared towards personal fulfillment, because so much is geared to is what is outside ourselves, and in many cases what is outside our reach, I think this is what ultimately fuels consumerism. Like e.g. the way magazines project 'perfection' in such an unattainable light...

I think individuals can achieve happiness but it ultimately has to come from within... that is not to say that happiness is a purely self generated thing, but it has to begin from within.. trying to aspire to society's expectations would leave us perpetually coming up short
thumbs up
