I must say, yes, they do.
First thing that caught my eye is the following:
(DN Dagens Nyheter)
"Before you hurry to blame people for racism, when will we choose a president / prime minister with Hussein as middle name?" - This was directed to the Swedish readers. Spot on!
I could download files with the two contender’s views in many important questions and I did.
I found that both of them have very similar views in most things with a few minute differences. Abortion right and Gay marriage are hot potatoes and there they differ, but not with much.
If you think that Obama is liberal in his opinions… forget it, he is not. Not at all actually; he is just an ordinary American politician with believes in tune with the average US voters - as is McCain.
Reading the fine print, as a foreigner in a part of the world that is very depending on the outcome of the US finance situation, I find that it is actually better if McCain wins. That is, to us, the foreign trading countries.
McCain has had a long history of balancing acts where both Democrats and Republicans have been behind him in important questions.
Honestly, it is not a bad guy to run the country.
BUT…
There are only two weeks left. Foreign policy of US has not been very successful lately and the earlier supporters of US have become wary of big brothers moves in the diplomatic arena.
Even if a change to democrats in practise actually means very little, and even though Obama is negative to free trade, the message to the world and particularly the US hating parts of it would be very important.
It would too to US; a guy does not need to have ivory skin to make it anywhere. (He still needs all the rest, money, school and friends, but that’s life).
It is more about making a statement as I see it. For me, business wise I rather have McCain. For peace, order and progress I choose Obama, not because he will close down the defence, he will not. He will increase investment in the Air Force, for example, to keep world reign in the air. No, just for the message it sends.
Again, this is seen from outside US. We do not have a say in your election, but we will sure get to take part of the fruit it renders.
Simplified:
If McCain wins – business as usual, maybe even a little better. US strengthen military power throughout. Import restrictions less likely. No abortions.
If Obama wins – a lot less racial hatred towards US, as it would look foolish. US strengthen the Air Force and its co-forces. More control over import and focus on national products. No gay marriages.
The Foreigner
That's logical and well thought out. What the hell are you doing posting here?
