Walking along a path with one's eyes closed will only cause one to stumble & hurt themselves.
In the process, they miss all the beauty along the way.

We can only hope for people who lose perspective.

You know, I have tons of gay friends. Their jokes make yours look virginal!
I've discovered the world of the politically correct gay joke was NOT invented by a gay man or lesbian woman...
rather a very insecure "straight".

Seriously, they must have been turning that cheek for so long... wait... that comment can only lead to a bad joke.

You know, it doesn't matter who your spoofing... gays, racial groups, certain jobs, hair colours...
once you make it into an issue, you've exaggerated the core problem. It's a bit like feeding the trolls in the forums. The negative attention paid to such a subject does it more harm than good.
We all know US government jokes... Clinton & the cigar, Bush and his long list of screw ups, or any of the candidates of this election. Funny how THOSE don't turn into a big fat street brawl.
*hmmm...

Face it, there's nothing as harmful as an old fashioned twitch in the butt to ruin good fun.
wink thumbs up

May I ...

I feel like one of the foundational pillars here, having been around since the forums were started... soooooooo... here's what I've noticed:

A.) There are many here who, for one reason or another, tend to be a bit shy or cautious in their real lives. To them, this online dating thing is a bit scary... a bit overwhelming.
In time, hopefully they make a couple friends & eventually post a pic.

B.) Now, mixed in are a handful of devious souls who slither in to have a "good laugh". Loosely translated, they are lame keyboard romeos, shoving sweets into their gullets while attempting to see how much rubbish they can stir up without ever being identified.
Bottom line, they suck & tend to make it harder for the nice ones.

C.) I have heard the job related excuse numerous times. These persons tend to be employed in jobs like security, educational, or highly social/political persons... & yes, their pics being posted could turn into a serious issue.
There was a teacher who posted here, back within the first 6 month of CS getting the forums... his students discovered his profile. It ended up with him being dismissed for some BS about making advances on a minor. It was total crap, but the man lost his position as a result of being identified.

D.) The most common reason people do not want to post a pic is simple. They do not know if this online dating thing is really worth a go. It's a big crap shoot and many are simply jaded enough to not want to endure the amount of effort required to find other singles... possibly even "the one".
We can only hope they lurk in these forums long enough to discover quality people really do still exist.

wink thumbs up

Well, geesh... he mentioned Buttered croissants & the hair went up on the back of my neck.

(like a dog whistle, I came running as if there were real homemade Buttered croissants waiting in here somewhere)

I don't have to find fault in anyone.
We are all human and therefore imperfect. We ALL have flaws.

This is not a question about females... it is a human one.
Every human can be destructive towards a relationship.

Keep in mind, if a person has their IM on, it doesn't always mean they get the IM.
If they've already closed their profile, the system may take up to 45 mins to recognize their absence, all the while the IM may pop open on your end but not theirs.

If they have stepped away from their computers, obviously any IMs will not be received.

The IMs here are not easy to use. Sending a msg often freezes the ability for the other person to continue typing theirs. These system errors are a regular event & make use of this IM something most are confused by. They may close it, thinking it is broken or not working properly.

They may be in another conversation and your IM is an intrusion, therefore they ignore it. Unfortunately, once the IM setting allows for them, an incoming message can not be prevented. They can be closed but not avoided. (in this case, persistence can be highly annoying... aka, more than two comments)

For some of us, an uninvited IM is rude. It's a bit like walking up to a stranger's house and yelling into their window to try to strike up a conversation, regardless of what they may be doing.
You may find it is better to save that option for once you've already contacted someone.

Try a different system of communication if your IM approach doesn't work.
You have others to choose from for a reason.

wink thumbs up
