Most of the responses were advice as to why it is a scammer and why you shouldn't send money.

He shouldn't have to go through all of this...seriously. You don't ask for money and you don't offer money.

He can always offer to go visit her...

He doesn't want your guesses, I presume.

So my personal opinion is that rather "wasting" his time here, he could ask her those questions and come a far bit closer to what actually is.

Plus, on top of it, if it is a scam, he could have a wee bit of fun. He could send her all over the city to gather information, in return for a promise that he will send money as soon as she has found out.

However, if it is a scammer it's more likely to be a he, than a she.

CaptainBeirutIII: There's a better way to find out, if you really want, than to ask this on the forum because what you'll get is 20 replies which all will say that she's a scammer and that you should stay away, advise from people who have not exchanged a word with her.

Do you really want to find out?

Well, stop guessing, then.

Ask her to send you details about where it is she has to apply for a visa. Address, phone number, email.
Ask her whether there is a link to a form to be filled out, or ordered.
Offer to pay this directly from Australia, rather than sending money for it.

Offer to do it through the Russian embassy in Australia, tell her you will find out whether there might be a way for you to sort it out for here, and that she scans a copy of her passport, then emails you.

It's a simple email to be sent, with the questions above, and if she's arguing against that, doesn't want it at all, then you're onto something. Now, you're not sure, are you?
