druidess6308: For diet, the basics are to eliminate refined sugars and simple carbs (which become sugars), eat whole grains instead. No potatoes, no sweets, limited fats. 70% of our diet should come from raw fruits and veggies. The remainder should be whole grains, low-fat dairy, and lean meats. Organics are better than non-organics.

I could get into a lot more detail right now since I'm in the nutrition part of my studies, but I'll keep it basic here. ~Diane

Lots & lots of water too, right?

I'm a salt freak. Should I cut down on that?

OUTRAGEOUS: True! when I had my first daughter I weighed approx 180 lbs after the birth...I started walking her in the mornings and evenings, pushing the stroller, up and down the street and around the neighborhood, for abt an hour... when she was 3 months old I had gone down from a size 16 to a size 10, not even dieting because I was lactating... I should do that again... I mean walk, not lactate

rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, I'd walk her to get a slushy at the nearby convenience store. I was almost in a size 3!! Maybe I can borrow one of my grandchildren... confused laugh

mindfful: pilates is great and faster than many people realize

eating often and little carbs (anything white) no soda
and some dark greens regularly does an amazing job

in 2 weeks i can lose 12 lbs when i eat that way

and then keep it off

food is fuel and not every bite has to be about pleasure
i learned i dint have to loooove everything i eat

best program i have ever used is a body builders profiling system that was developed in the late 20's and has been used today by the 6 week bosy makeover deal

all we really have to do is take the test online

its endomorph and 2 other types
google it

also check your tv provider for a channel called fit tv
its on demand exercise programs w/ lots of choices

oh and beer is kinda bad

Thanks MF! thumbs up

I've exercised to those channels already before.

And I don't drink beer. But how bad is Captain Morgan, or Kahlua, Baileys, Vodka? sigh

Honestly, I've cut way back on the alcohol recently. So, that shouldn't be as much of a problem. wink

sweetowen: I used to walk every day when my daughter was a baby. And I lived in a 4th floor apartment & was afraid to use the elevator. Thus, I was very thin. I want to start that again. I'd also like to find a bike to buy & start riding.

I already have a membership to a gym about 3 minutes from my house. I guess it's about time I start using it, huh?

And I am going to start exercising at home too. I'd love to join a yoga class! I think we have them here, on campus! thumbs up

druidess6308: One summer I started trail walking and walking at a track. I built up slowly to being able to do about 3 miles. I didn't lose pounds, but I went down 3 sizes, losing weight from all over. And I felt better. Brisk pace, though, not a stroll. It has to be a true exercise walk.

As you feel better, you can add in strength training with weights. It doesn't have to be expensive like joining a gym, just buy a good set of dumbbells. You can get those and some good videos at Wal*Mart for a good price. Yoga and Pilates are also good.

Snuggs09: Sweet, when I lost the 126 lbs. I stopped eating ice cream, anything that came from a bakery, candy store and carbs. I didn't count carbs, but I was aware of the simple ones, they are the bad ones. Cereals, oatmeal, etc. are complex carbs and are good for you within reason. I didn't exercise at all.

I saw the following article today on CNN.com. http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/07/10/attitudes.overweight/index.html

Thanks Snuggs! I've been trying to watch my carb intake. Unfortunately, I'm a huge bread & pasta eater. sigh

SuzyJ: 1. Firstly try not to even look at weight at all. Get a set of scales that calculated your body fat percentage. You want to lose FAT, not WEIGHT - and when you're working out and building mucle you will either lose fat and stay the same weight or even put weight on. So first rule is dont look at weight.

2. Next I would suggest not changing your diet provided it is balanced and healthy - denying yourself foods will only cause cravings. Take a good multi vitamin supplement aimed at your sex and age group, this will also help stop any cravings as your body will be getting all the nutrients it needs. Any drastic or repeated changes in diet will make your body go into survival mode where it will probably try to save as many calories as possible, this means you could put on fat and is the main reason fad diets only work short term. Im assuming you want a long term solution...

3. Mix cardio workouts (30 minutes a session is ok - don't let people tell you you need to do an hour cos thats rubbish, you're not training for a marathon - yet!) (cycling, running or cross training are all great - walking too although it just takes longer to lose the fat as you are moving at a slower pace) with strength training - lift weights. Most women don't want to do this as they think they will look like men but it would take a really significant amount of hours in the gym and a targeted diet to get a really dry male look so don't worry about that. You need to build extra muscle, why? Because muscle is what burns calories, the more of it you have the more calories you burn in a day - this keeps your metabolism up which is important as this will slow down a bit as you age. Do 3 sets working up to 30 repetitions about 3 times a week. Try to vary the exercises so you're muscles don't become unresponsive over time (the body is very good at saving energy and needs to be kept on its toes!). One really good tip Ive heard is to use free standing weights since they employ more muscle groups and have a greater effect overall than the machines, which just isolate and work one group.

4. Try to incorporate exercise into your normal day so that you do it without thinking about it - in the netherlands most people actually think nothing of cycling 10 km to work. It saves money, often takes less time in a large city and burns calories without you having to set aside time for the gym.

Hope some of this will be useful for you!

Thank you! And just to let you know... I've never bought a scale since I moved away from home, 25 years ago. wink

NeWildflower: No hot kisses
Missionary only
Only wants to have sex in bed... never in the kitchen, in the shower, in the whirlpool tub, never outside..(did I say that outloud?)
Once and he's done.
An all-nighter is unheard of.
Did I mention no hot kisses? Hot kisses are... hot!

And no oral!! That's the worst!
Well almost the worst... I think sex should be fun! FUN!FUN!FUN!

And when he's done, he rolls over & goes to sleep. No thinking about satisfying you. mumbling

Beleiveinone: Hello Sweets,

I know how it is to struggle with with a few extra pounds, which indeed does not mean you look bad.
By your photo's I think you look just beautiful however if you are not satisfied with your current weight I recommend Cardio.
Previously I served in the Armed Forces until 2004, I think that Aroebic type fitness and calorie reduction is truly the only weight loss solution.
Then when you are within a few pounds of your desired weight/goal...perhaps incorporating some light weights, curls for toning...Squats are great.
I also think an online buddy system is very motivating and encouraging when you need the support you can write back and forth and relay your progress or maybe keep tabs on the days for how much you are consuming in calories...I will be your online buddy if you need one, perhaps you have one...Nevertheless, my wishes for a healthy success are here and bestowed your way.
I think you look lovely as I said before, I do know it is important as we get older to be a little below than over, so your happiness is paramount.

Best wishes
Kemberly Nielsen

Thank you sooooo much! That sounds very similar to the advice a coworker (who looks absolutely great!) gave me yesterday.

I honestly don't feel comfortable at the weight I am right now. I've never struggled with weight before. I could eat whatever I wanted & not gain. But I can't even look at food now without feeling fat. And everyone telling me I'm not doesn't help. No, I didn't mean you, sweetie. I just know that I'm not at my ideal weight. I'm not extremely over, but would be so much more comfortable when I reach my goal. thumbs up

Ambrose2007: Do you find "good guys who want an actual relationship" boring overall, or mainly in the bedroom?

Ya know, Ambrose... you really should charge for this! That's a GREAT question! I've never been one who NEEDED a man to "exist". I'm happy being on my own. But the feeling one gets when in a relationship cannot be beat, ya know?

Let me just say, you may have touched on something I'm going go have to give a lot of thought to! thumbs up

Maybe it's just me. It just seems that if you find a good guy who wants an actual relationship, he turns out to be kinda boring in the bedroom. dunno

I'm trying to lose about 15 lb. This is pretty tough for me because I've really never had to diet before... any added weight just came off eventually. But as I get older, it doesn't seem to want to budge.

Please share your ideas, recipes, secrets that I might be able to follow. Also, any exercises to take the weight off & firm up.

She can indeed sing, she did that pro bono too, for charity.
I LOVE Kate Winslet.
Quills is my fave movie with her in it.

I have yet to see that one about the German boy, can't think of the title.

I liked her in Titanic & The Holiday! thumbs up

druidess6308: She does have a beautiful voice.

It's so easy to say "if only...", but we make our choices, and our path moves on from there. I don't regret any of the choices I made, for they put me on the path I'm on now.

I believe that the choices we make and the courses we take are the right ones, regardless of the outcome. I'm not saying none of us make mistakes, I know I certainly do, but I mean the life choices. Everything happens for a reason, to fit into the life plan we chose before coming in.

That kind of describes my philosophy. The way I see it, you do have a fate. However, in that fate, there are many forks in the road. The path you choose, while still being a part of fate is still largely up to you.

Never regret, for everything happens for a reason. I'm not crazy about my choice of marital partners. But without him, I'd never have had my wonderful daughter & adorable grandbabies. wine

Are there any "what if" moments you'd like to share with us? Is there a time you think may have been a missed opportunity because you just didn't do/say the right thing or take the right course?
