Infatuation is not what I see as a beginning of a relationship, just to put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Love and infatuation is what we feel at the beginning of a relationship, then the infatuation wears off and the love remains, which then grows with time, investment, (not of the financial order), for some reason people think that love does not begin at the beginning. For some it does, for other's it grows with time, there are no rules.
I fell in love with my ex partner within twenty minutes, we clicked, it brings a smile to my face, yes I was infatuated with him, we loved, laughed, lived in different countries, we did an awful lot together, sadly it ended, but I remember it well, will always and will always remember him fondly and the laughs and the fun we had, that lasted three and a half years.
I will always feel love for him, it will remain there, any new partner, I hope at our age can look back at his past relationships and feel that, without bitterness, without scorn. That to me is love. Remembering, often and fondly, no regrets, no shame, a smile, a thought and being a part of your life.
I guess love knows no boundaries, for me it did not, infatuation? No, we all infatuate, there are not many of us that pretend to be in love.
And that is my take on the two.
