I reckon its more of the same old same old - the rich keep on getting richer while the poor keep getting handed the short straw - as you have mentioned Trees, why the heck should they get rewarded for mismanagement of common resources by keeping their mansions and yachts at the same time as tent cities are springing up and job losses trebling by the day - unless of course they think its their money and have lost sight of the fact that without a workforce to produce the means of their profits they wouldnt have any counters to be playing with - oops, forgot, they already wasted those ones in their war games - they are currently playing with our childrens inheritances very mad

We need to level the playing field if you ask me and that means we dont bail them out this time and put an end to this shambles of trickledown theory - the biggest rip off of all time - they need to be made accountable, have profit margins capped and establish their own safety nets - the whole thing needs to be simplified, streamlined and reigned in............ its us poor people who pay the price - some guy the other day in an interview didnt even know how many properties he owns, he isnt going to be losing one of em so what does it matter - for those of us who barely scrape to pat the mortgage or rent to keep a roof over our loved ones heads, it matters alright and has gone on long enough - if this is the wheels falling off capitalism them I hope it hurries up and breaks the bloody axle.............

I find it difficult to consider that there may not be intelligent life out there somewhere - an infinite universe must furnish us with infinite possibilities.

If I was was part of an alien nation, I would caution against letting ourselves be known to a species such as humans who have as yet not found a way to be agreeable with each other in many areas of our being - unkindness, greed and one-upmanship run rampant on this planet and absolutely must be viewed with scepticism by any race of people with the intellegence to master inter-galactic travel....

I really can just imagine what somebody viewing the state of mankind would think of the disparities between the starving people of Somalia and the fat cats of the stock exchanges and multinationals......

Are there degrees of Atheism?

I don't think I have ever met a resolute Atheist. A person who does not believe in something intangible
that sustains Life and Love. This is a case where I would think it would be a black or white, no
shades of grey belief without options.

Would if be possible that some people would want to rethink their definitions of how they would
describe their belief system?

As for me...my concepts/perceptions change all the time contingent upon added information.

Oh Im a totally resolute Atheist - resolute that its way past time I went to sleep at least.........laugh

but, truly, I have found resolution in my beliefs - I will be happy to speak of these issueswhen I have had some sleep tip hat

An Atheist "believes" there is no god or superior being no soul, no after life, no heaven, no hell. In a way Atheism is a form of religion because the Atheist "believes" in something albeit a negative.

The agnostic believes nothing, he just doesn't know and is open minded to proof of that which the religious community espouses. He doesn't accept that which can't be proven by scientific means, therefore he rejects the trappings and dogma of the religious community with all its rituals and taboos and symbols. If someone could take a rib from a man and turn it into a woman and if it could be repeated whenever one wanted to, the agnostic would accept that yes you can indeed make a woman from the rib of a man. This would apply to all the other claims made for a god or superior being.
This also goes for a "soul" if one could produce a soul, put it on the table, measure it, weigh it take a picture of it, smell it, poke it, the agnostic would say ok there is such a thing as a soul, but not until then. To the agnostic, saying there's a soul just because someone says there is or has faith that there is, without scientific proof, the agnostic would simply not accept it as something that exists.

Id love to kow how you think my beliefs equate to a negative rolling on the floor laughing

But parapsychology itself is not very accepted rite ..

I think atheism can coexist with being spiritual or having faith in some higher power which neednt be a symbolic deity or god ...

So .. thinking that way atheism can be marked by a touch of ambiguity .. to say i dont know we just die and no clue after that ..

Sooo .. i think it is acceptable to have the concept of a soul even if you dont believe in " god "

Having delved into psychology to pretty much the same extent as myself Riya - I suggest that 'ambiguities' take on a similar role to 'cognitions' when we sit em in the armchair that is laugh
