That's the thing isn't it...these emotions are what give life it's zest. Love would have no meaning if we didn't love to be in love. Were there never any pain, or if it didn't hurt, there would be nothing to drive us toward something better.

Look at it this way instead....the love is worth it.

Life is all about pain. Any Mother already knows this, because life begins in pain, it is endured in pain, and if you are conscious when you die, you will probably die in some sort of pain. But love .... ....love is worth it.

On this hun we are going to have to agree to disagree, I dont think anything is worth that pain.

Not sure we can really appreciate the great feelings if we have no bad comparisons to measure it by.

But I think the saying means that we are better to have experienced love at all, know and claim that feeling for the wonderful thing it is, than never to have experienced it, even if that means we had to get hurt.

In a sense I do get that hun just dont agree with it.

I guess I look at it a bit like child birth... the pain is agony, the gain so worth the pain. But to each their own... does that mean you´re leaving me more opportunities???

Because being in love is such an amazing and wonderful place to be... I have experienced it and that´s what makes it so frustrating for me now... I want it again.

No matter how much I fill my life with good friends, great nights out, treating myself to holidays and enjoying my life, I know life can be that bit better with love in it.

I can appreciate thats how you feel hun. I have experienced being in love, thats how I know the pain of losing it and nothing on earth would make me go through that again. I simply cant understand why anyone would want to risk it.

It's better by comparison
...just one of those sayings...of course nothing beats the ideal " better to love and be loved in return"

But if we had never loved we would never have had to feel that pain.

I think not.

The expression "It is better to have loved and lost, then to never have loved at all" may seem cliché, but I really believe that every experience of love is worth having, regardless of the outcome. If we realize that we can consciously decide to love, then it seems obvious that there is no limit to the numbers (Okay, there is the monogamy limit, but that goes with out saying I hope).

see thats the bit that gets me...why is it better?

I dont understand how people can say that the pain of losing someone you love is worth it.

If you dont want to give up then dont.

As I have said for me it is simply about excepting the reality of things.

I dont see it as giving up/in, I see it as excepting reality. And that the whole love and relationship thing is not for everybody. I think it is a waste of life to spend it looking for someone else to complete us instead of enjoying what we have.
