Is the debate whewther or not God can be quantified,
measured, and put in a box? The answer is no. Does
this prove or disprove his existance? No. Mankind has
the gift (or curse) of Reason. With it we can discover
many marvels. We also can realize there are
circumstances where reason holds no sway.
We can apply reason to mathmatics, physics, building a
house or harnessing the wind.
But can reason write a poem, sing a song, or entertain
a newborn baby? These are things of the soul, and of
love. Can love be quantified, measured, put in a box
or explained? Yet everyone on this site is looking for
it. How will you know when it is found? Do you have
some device that will indicate to you as you near it?
If so I'd like to know how you measure it.
we can read a variety of books, ancient and modern,
scripture and philosophy, but in the end we must trust
something intangible: our feelings, our heart, or God
to tell us.
I remember as a young man reading philosophers and
thinkiong that I might bend the universe to my will.
#0 years later I must admit that while the mental
gymnastics were good exercise, the universe has not
bent to my will, I conform to the universe.
I see that an argument against the existance of God
is that there are tragedies in the world. Children
starving, innocents killed in the name of God,
Dictators enslaving thier subjects. I do not lay these
events at the feet of God. I contend that they are the
work of MAN, generally an individual or group using
Reason to attempt to make themselves godlike, this
does not mean they ARE God.
Yes, there is great evil in the world. Most of it can
be traced to a manmade cause. But can a sunrise,
spring shower, snowflake or childrens laughter be
assigned a manmade cause? We may explain them with our
science and reason, but can we explain as easily why
they touch our soul?
