Has anyone had the experience of mailing someone on CS for an extended time and then as soon as you agree to take the conversation to your personal email (at his suggestion, I might add), the bugger disappears? I just don't get it.

Sometimes life just takes over. This is a safe place and we can somewhat neglect our connections. I find wonderful conversations and then they go away. We all have a life outside of CS. We never know if they are sick or had to take a trip. I have found some of the men I have talked to have found the ones they are looking for. This makes me happy for them. I will always take the time to chat and send emails. They may not be worthy of you and just need to exit.
