As you read my post you should be listening to this song. I got to see the movie Billy Jack for which it was written last night for the first time, and it's a story of the intolerance and injustice in this world, and how people don't get along because they don't accept that others are different...especially the white man not being able to tolerate and accept those of different races. That movie debuted in 1970, and it's a shame that 39 years later there hasn't been more progress in this world towards tolerance and justice...and true freedom for all.

In that movie, Billy Jack tells Jeanie to tell him where there is one place in this country, or even on this whole planet where people don't kill each other, but live in peace together, with tolerance and love, and he won't kill the man who raped her...and she can't.

I see that here on CS as well. The lack of tolerance at times for those who are different, or have a unique viewpoint on a subject. Sometimes those who are new here feel unwelcome, and I have seen why. They do an intro thread and get numerous "put up a pic" responses, or very little response at times. Some of the younger ones feel that their opinions aren't valued because they don't get a response. And some start a thread, but don't welcome any viewpoints that differ from theirs. I've seen pack attacks, and those are ugly.

Yes, there are times that it's very beautiful and welcoming here at CS, and I love to see that happen. It's the times that it gets ugly that sadden me. I don't understand intolerance and hatred, bitterness, and lack of forgiveness. Those are foreign to me, and it truly saddens me when I see them anywhere. But it saddens me most when I see it here.

This could be one little corner of the cyber world where love and tolerance reign supreme. It's up to us to make it that way.

Was it really 39 years ago? I actually saw that in the theater when it came out, the marquee was wrong and the ticket person didn't give a hoot as to our ages.

Even at that young age the movie definitely spoke to me and had a profound effect and resonated many indifferences that people put on others just because they are different. I have seen this first hand with myself and family members ...

It seems that some can't put in the time and effort to try and see another's point of view. It's easier to jump at the chance to tramp on someone rather than make the time to see it a different way.

Cheers to all who are different, for that is what makes the world an ever changing place. If we were all the same it would be a boring existence.

Think twice before clicking on "post reply" ...

I saw that movieseveral times a lot of years ago. Ive been looking for it on dvd but havnt found it. The movie itself is violent, but the theme of trying to coexist in peace I really liked.Everyone should take it to heart.bouquet

If anyone wants to know where to find the DVD for this and other old faves that are hard to find, email me. I'll get the site from my girlfriend for where she got it. You can find anything on there, according to her.

Billy Jack was originally made and released in 1970, didn't do well, so Laughlin (who plays the main character and produced it with his wife) took it somewhere else a few years later and it became a hit...my friend thinks it was around 1973 that it was re-released and became popular.

It was followed by The Trial of Billy Jack and Billy Jack Goes To Washington. Sadly, I've never seen any of them until last night, but I remember the song. I always loved it, with its message of irony that all of that killing was for a treasure that the people on the mountain were willing to share...and that treasure was a rock that said Peace On Earth. I loved the movie. Yes, it was violent, but the message was that the people on the reservation didn't want violence, they only wanted peace. And they truly tried to get along with the townspeople...but the white people in the town feared them because they were different.

I know it's not only white people of European descent who have done so much violence and killing in the name of fear of those who are different, but it has been mostly us. There have been times in my life I've been ashamed of that ancestry, for I do carry English, Dutch and German ancestry within me, and they have been three of the worst. But I remind myself that it wasn't me, and that I can choose to be different than the people who have done these things. And I am.

As I said, war, anger, bitterness and hatred are foreign to me. Judging others by their race or religion is also foreign to me. I just don't understand it. Our differences, as Greekarican said, make this world a much more interesting place to live. And they make CS a much more interesting microcosm of this world. Celebrate them, explore them, and learn from others viewpoints. If you try to see something from another's point of view, you might learn something new, or at least have a good shift in perspective. I know I have.

I built such a place several times, using plans obtained from Wise Men and Women...
Alas, those Havens were vwry small--occupancy limited to two...
And they were fragile. The Wise people all died without sharing the trick to lend them durability....if they knew such a trick in the first place which is problematic.
The Tin Soldier rode away alone.Remember?

Yes, but he did so to save those he loved, WW. And he was loved as he rode away as well.

I've only had one such true haven in my life...my last marriage. Death put an end to that one and left this tin soldier alone.

I'm blessed to be able to go to one such place, and will be going there tonight. I'm not sure yet if it will be alone or not when I go, but when I arrive I won't be alone. I know a couple who has built such a haven to share and many are drawn there. Not to live, but to visit. Some of us quite frequently.

And I come home to such a haven every day. Sadly, inhabited by one human and two dogs only...some day I would love to have another join me in it. It's a peaceful place to be...but whoever finally inhabits it with me must help it remain peaceful. Never again do I want to live in a place inhabited with less than peace...even if it means remaining alone in my haven.

Wonderful post Dru, and very true.

I have my own peaceful little haven here and, like you, I am the only human in it...for now at least.

hug I do enjoy knowing I am coming home to peace and a place I love to be...and living, breathing beings that I love to come home to, also. But adding one special human that I also love coming home to, whose arms bring that sense of peace as well, would be nice.

I saw the cartoon format, but the song was actually written for that movie, Vixen. The cartoon takes it into a literal visual scheme. It's why I used the movie footage in my link. It also wasn't actually a Coven project, but one done solely by Jinx, the lead singer. Coven later played it, and the band did (to the best of my knowledge) play the music and perform it later.

A very interesting trivia lesson I got last night. This is the stuff my g/f is into, and I learn a lot from her of this stuff that was slightly before my time. hug

I know a man whose arms feel this way, PW. What the future will be with him has yet to be decided...by both of us. I love him, and I want a future with him with all of my heart. But I honestly don't know if it would work or not. We're so different...but the love is so deep and real. I'll let time take us where it does. No expectations, no pressures on either of us. Right now, it is what it is from day to day. I'm happy right where we are right now, and content to just go with the flow of the Universe.

All I ask for in this world are love and peace. So long as I have them, I'm happy. I've had more than enough of strife and heartache for a lifetime.
