Thanks for the laugh, it has been such a blue day for me, grieving because it is my dads birthday and he is deceased. I didnt think anything would cheer me up, but you did it dad would have loved this

Years ago there was an old couple. The woman was the sort who could curdle the milk of human kindness at 100 yards and her poor husband suffered 30 years shackled to her.

One day she did him the greatest kindness she ever had and dropped stone dead. As this was before the days of refrigeration and there was not local embalmer the plan was to hold the service quickly and get her planted before she started to turn.

It was a nice service other than the preacher stammering over trying to find some kind words to say about the dear departed. Most of the neighborhood showed up as well. You give the people a show they want to see and they will do what ever it takes to attend. Several folks even commented on how the old gent looked that most relaxed he had in their memories.

After the service they closed up the casket and headed out the door to take the body to the graveyard. As it happened one of the pall bearers stumbled going down the front steps and the casket bounced off the old hitching post in front of the house.

Immediately there was a thrashing and muffled cussing from inside the box. No sooner had they sat it down and the very much alive woman leapt from her coffin and proceeded to light into her husband for trying to bury her alive. No longer was she going to be the sweet and loving girl she had been all these years, she assured him.

Well, she lasted another five years and once again keeled over. This time the husband did not seem as relaxed at the funeral. Instead he sat all through the service wringing his hands. After the preacher had his say and the lid once again been closed he came up and quietly spoke to the pall bearers:

“Mind the hitchin’ post will ya?”
