I really don't like this time of year...don't get me wrong I am as American as Apple pie on the 4th of JULY...I just hate fire works...they are DANGEROUS...and ...Scare the HELL out of animals
So please watch out for your pets...I always take special care to keep my dogs up during July..The dogs hearing is more sensitive to these LOUD unpredictable BLAST...I have hunting dogs that love their job. The report of a gun means a falling bird to them but Blast after Blast with no falling bird is a good way to ruin a good dog. If your dog runs to you in fear (this may be hard for some ) don't PET them this will reinforce the shyness and make matters worse. Act normal like it is no big deal don't baby talk to them either, just go about your business like nothing is different. When we pet the animal we reinforce the behavior we want, if you try to comfort them by petting and talking you will only make shyness worse. If you have a thunder or storm shy dog you can try, this put a T shirt on them. This does work on some that won't rip it off. It seem to make them feel more secure...Try it. Keep all are pets Safe and You also HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY 4TH of JULY..... cheering

My pets are alway scared on the 4th of July. Also, I almost lost my home to brush fires when I lived in southern California. Every year fireworks started dangerous fires there. I find it difficult to understand the joy in setting off fireworks in a place like California knowing how many people have lost their homes due to this. I was ask to leave my home at 1:30AM in the morning and not knowing whether it would be there when I returned.

My small dog is terrified of Fireworks and in Spain every Fiesta is an excuse. She is also terrified of thunderstorms which are very frequent in the long hot summers.

I had a little dog that used to run back and forth in the back yard barking and trying to chase the fireworks in the sky, tale awagging. He didn't want to be in the house...he was having too much fun.

My other dogs didn't like them tho...and I'm afraid that I was guilty of comforting them.

I think American pets should try taking a few lessons from battle-hardened Iraqi pets...

My dog loves fireworks.

He's mesmerized by them. He love to watch rockets
and particularly enjoys roman candles.

He's a bit weird like that.laugh

I do not have a new dog yet, But I was told I would be getting a black Lab in the near future. However, I remember having a dog afraid of thunderstorms. He followed me around tripped me up, by accident. I did ignore him though. Thanks gooddogman

Would you believe that on New Year's Eve
we didn't have any fireworks at all?
So,as a community,we got the rangers
to form lights out on the bay and
shoot guns in the air.
It was very pretty sight to see.

I'm still trying to work out why on earth any pet would want to rip off something so cheap as a T-shirt...?

Only when eaten from the pulsating stomach of a beautiful, nubile female lying prostrate across the kitchen table...(A delicacy only for the privileged few, I'm afraid).

I am in Portugal but how I can understand you. Fire works...I am in an area of forest... there is a lot of villages, in August all the migrant people come for holidays and there are popular festivals, all over. Bad music and fireworks and as everybody wants to "show off" as more fire works as the best...
In the recent past we had very large and serious fires in the forests, near the villages... we lost thousand and tousands of tree... but this currente year we will have elections and I am wating to see if the Mayor will signe or not the order to stop this non sense.
This is a small world and the problems are the same.

That's true. My mom's new cat dislikes thunder. I bet he will dislike the fourth of July intensely. Poor little guy.
