Live and let live?

Can you be tolerant of someone who's beliefs are opposite of yours if they are being tolerant of your beliefs or do you feel you need to correct them?

Does it make a difference what it is I.E. faith, politics, gender preference, etc?

I'm always perfectly fine with others having their own judgments. It's when they want to ram them down other people's throat that I have a problem with it.
Especially when their conclusions were arrived at through manipulation, brainwashing, naivete, racism and pure hate.

Otherwise, "live and let live" is always a golden rule as far as I'm concerned.

We all have our own beliefs, how can you correct anyone about what they believe ? Who and how does any one know if your beliefs are incorrect ?cool

I live quite pleasently with peoples of other beliefs around here. For the most part.
Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, whether or not I happen to disagree.
I don't like the idea of forcing my ideals onto others just for the sake that I think I might be right.
I'm not arrogant enough to really think I know all the answers anyways. ( though I may say I do )
But then again, what I may say isn't always what I do.
I'm also not narcissitic enough to think that everytime I open my mouth smart falls out.

Some seem to be very determined to try. It shocks me to see the amount of anger and hatred that can be expressed over disagreement over personal beliefs.

I think I already mentioned it tonight....

'Living my life the way I SEE FIT IS not selfish.
Demanding other people live their life the way I SEE FIT IS.'professor

Lemme guess. On your wall is a sign stating

One aspect of the Socratic method requires that you refute yourself.
Whatever your opinion you argue the contrary point of view.
For the exercise.
A plus is that you stop taking yourself seriously.

I'm totally tolerant of the beliefs of others. I'm friends with many who don't share the same religious beliefs, or political beliefs, and those who are homosexual as well.

However, for a mate/partner we would have to be in close alignment in all arenas. There could be slight differences, but someone that I'm that intimately involved with, I must be in close agreement with as well. Just me and how I am on this...I know others can have that close relationship with someone that they don't agree with on all levels, and that's okay.

And it doesn't mean I want to be joined at the hip with a partner...we can have different activities and watch different things on TV. Just our beliefs and how we see the world have to be close.

I tend not to take myself seriously and find it hard to take anyone that does, seriously. I dont have any set beliefs in anything that I cant prove. I find interest in many areas as a result and find i am not limited by a closed mind. I am actually amused by people that preach tolerance through their beliefs then personally attack others that disagree with theirs. roll eyes

I'd like to think so....besides...how much fund is anything if everybody agrees with you? I like variation, debating, discussions about everything...only differences bring these about...

There will always have to be some core principle we share though...I guess you have to know and mention the things which are most important to you and check the other's view early on
