Let’s say you’re walking down the street and you notice a man beating on his wife in a parking lot.

Do you step in and stop the violence?

Do you reach for your cell phone and call the authorities?

Let’s say you’re in a low income area of the nearest major city, and you see a child who is obviously malnourished and dirty.

Do you stop and offer that child some food or some clothes to wear?

Do you alert child services?

How about a homeless man, do you give him whatever spare change you have or offer him some food as well?

Do you show him to the nearest shelter?

Do you care if someone you know has cancer and do whatever you can to help them out?

Would you pull a stranger from a burning building if you could?

Would you help the beaten, the hungry, the poor and homeless, the sick, and those in danger?

God sees them all the time and does NOTHING……

I'm better than your god....

I don't know what I would do in some of these situations. I know I am a caring man and wish I would help in all of the cases you presented.

I know I am not better than my God.

Finally something interesting.

1. No I would call the police, my own safety is paramount, if I get hurt who is going to take care of my children?

2. I would alert the relevant authorities.

3. I have given change to people in the streets begging, they may not be homeless. Homeless does not mean being on the streets, it can mean any number of things.

4. Yes, I have a person who is close to me who has cancer. I do what I can to help them out.

5. No, I would not. I am not the fire brigade.

6. I would help them all yes, via charity. I cannot save the world, if God cannot then how the hell am I expected to?

You're damn right I would interfer, call the police, social services, etc. and I would remain there until help arrived.

My point is this....

I have done all these things personally. (Except saving someone from a burning building)
However, the "Loving God" so many base their entire lives on sits idly by watching the suffering and does nothing.

"God" is a dead-beat dad.

I am an athiest, and enjoy a good religious debate. I've been here a long time and there seems to have been an influx of "Preacher-man" types who know not their Bible other than the few "feel good" verses offered to them by their preacher.

I'm posting this (and a few other threads) as a challange of sorts to those of the likes of anonymous1.

If they can "preach.....

So can I........

Or so it appears...
The exercise includes, 'free will'.
The inclusion of free will in the scheme makes the determinist/mechanist view obsolete.
Whatever we think about it is irrelevant to the extent that we blame events on the mechanics of the game (or whatever you'd like to describe it as), they are just the rules.
Once you arbitrarily raise yourself above the concept of the 'game', you may well be practicing the erroneous aspect of that free will.

Ah...."free will"

I like this thought.

However, what "free Will" is actually offored to us by the old bearded man in the sky?

Absolutely NONE what so ever.

There is no free will. Only an ULTIMATUM.

Worship me or burn.

Not much of a choice, is it?

Here's an analogy for you to chew on.

I offer you a bowl of ice cream or a bowl of dog shit.

Which one do you choose?

Ask the Sunday School kids "who was the sucker in the story of Job?"
They will say JOB almost every time...but it was God.
In Seminary the question is raised "Is the God described in JOB even worthy of being worshiped?"
It is ,after all a G(g)od who cares less for his creature than the afore-mentioned bowl of dog shit.

"Love One Another"... the great commandment.

If we truely love...
we will do whatever possible with the means we have, to right a situation, whether it be to provide food to the hungry, clothing to those in need, a drink to those who are thirsty, shelter to those without it.
Our acts of kindness and love to others is our purpose in life.
We are here to be selfless and help those who are hurting and in need. I live my life in this way, making the most of each opportunity. I have taken hundreds of homeless people into my home, allowed them to shower, eat and provided them with clothing. The greatest gift I could give any of them is my gift to love them unconditionally, expecting nothing in return.

The world would be a much better place if we ALL committed to the act of LOVE!

hi dear,

I have saved a young daughter and a wife from a drunken man calling to the police when he was beating them

I have saved children many times when someone (parents or adults)when they were beating them

countless times I have given food and money to the poor

The only thing I haven't done here saving a stranger from a burning building as you.

And I like to say that I am an animal lover, I have saved their lives many times. I am a vegetarian from my childhood.

And I am a nonreligious person

Hume and Rouseau and others spoke of "natural religion".I think that is what keep hearing about nowadays.

If you're shooting the shit then I'm loading my gun with old people pee.
Fair is fair.

Back on point I only fight for the injustice of my nearest and dearest.

They are all that matters to me.
