My sister is a foster parent and has just taken in a 7 month old baby girl.

Some of the stories are tragic. I think as a foster parent you can bring lots of love into a childs life.

My aunty is also a foster parent and had her son since he was born his biological mother passed away and she adopted him.

Wonderful people are foster parents with huge hearts.

You have to remember these children are not yours though and may be with you a short while or long term..............so you need to be able to let go as well as open your heart.wine

Thought about it in the past.

Make sure you know what you are getting into with the child in question. Many have serious issues.

Could be very good for both of you though.

my mother had mentioned this several times in the past but as of late she has decided that she is too old to do it...THANK YOU GOD...I see how she is with one of the little dogs she has and think to myself,'there is no way you could take care of a child'.

You are so right. It is hard to know. I guess you sort of have to "talk to your pillow" on it. Bless you, dear! Thanks! K

I thought about it myself since I have no children.

But I am afraid I would be turned down since I have bipolar disorder.

Go for it Onekitty!

i grew up in foster care and i also work for and know foster parents now. it is very hard, but very rewarding work. You have to deal with alot of baggage that a child brings from wherever they came from and there are many struggles.. most foster children ahve no value of right or wrong...i know most children don't in general..but it is different with foster kids..They go all through the spectrum... depending on the situation....but the rwards are amazing...making a difference even in one child's life is absolutly amazing... good luck with whatever choice you make....

Don't have an advice. Just wanted to say... it's a very honorable thing to do - to make a difference in a child's life.

Some people I know who started as foster parents, eventually adopted those kids because sometimes foster kids get moved from home to home, and these people didn't want to lose them kids.

Another reason (besides emotional attachment), they wanted shut up people who were spreading rumors saying that they do it for financial reasons. roll eyes

Yep, there are always ones who derive pleasure in badmouthing what they can't understand....

God luck.

I have never been a mom, so it would be a totally new experience for me. I was at first thinking about "big brother, big sister program," maybe that would work for you???? Don't know. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing! :) K
