CuspofMagic: "God" was dead
(thanks Ambrose)
What god?
I've asked that question many times and never got an answer because, I think, that if religious people contemplated the possibility, they'd have no choice but to conclude that they've been living a life based on a lie and nobody wants to do that. Moreover, it would mean that they'd be responsible for everything, mostly themselves from that day forward. Tough pill to swallow. Hence, why bother to entertain the thought.
I am also convinced that some personalities are such that they cannot function without having something "superior" to guide them in their lives. They'd simply replace the notion of god with something or someone else. It's a bit like addiction psychology. Replace one habit by another.
