mbcasey: I have gained weight and lost weight all my life. I have even spoken to this subject many times before. I would date a heavier person if they tried to take the weight off.

It's all about self esteem. I can't date someone who makes excuses why they can't lose weight. They seek comfort in food because of a low self esteem and/or other issues.

I am in the same boat...I have gained some weight this past year and I would make excuses for a while. But it only hurt one person....me. I am now back on a diet and exercise program to lose the weight I gained.

So I would date a heavy person if they had the willingness to lose weight and were actually trying to.

im sorry dude...but clearly you should re-read the original post.... none of that is an issue.... they both have the PERFECT personality/attitude.. the only difference between them is where they tip the scales at... which one????

I was writing to a man on CS in October 2008.

He looked like Paul Newman in his head pic which attracted me.

He also is a lawyer in a prominent New York law firm and that also attracted me because we are in the same field.

We decided to meet and when he got out of the car I was shocked because he was at least 400 lbs and about 5'10". He had said in his email that he used to be over 500 lbs and that he lost a lot of weight. Well, technically, he did lose a lot of weight but my imagination had failed me.

We went out and the more we communicated the more I found him interesting. I wasn't turned on sexually because this amount of weight was a turn off (even though I like big men). We continued with a few more dates but the relationship ended because I found out he had a colorful background and I wasn't interested in being the environment he has around him.

The question is: would I have dated him longer if he didn't have the colorful background....the answer is no, I wouldn't.

Weight is a factor in a relationship. That is one of the reasons I no longer get approached by the men on CS or any other site, because I have gained weight since my knee replacement and it shows in my picture.

One further note, when I am overweight as I am now, my attitude and disposition takes on a negative approach which is a downer when trying to meet guys.

Hey Nuala...wave

Steroids is one medication that does make you gain weight, and there may be others.

I have major medical problems and take meds, including a steroid that would make me gain weight. But I am not using it as an excuse anymore.

I am dedicated to losing weight...maybe I can get off some of the meds I am taking if I did...laugh

funkydelly: oh my god i've actually met somebody who I can just be rude too because he is so rude. . People come in all shapes and sizes, colours and creed, you'd want to get down off you high moral horse and realise not everybody will fit into your little box of perfect and maybe you should realise your far from perfect maybe you have no weight issues but you must have problems trying to think wit such a narrow mind. . .

so am i on a "high horse" because im willing to state my opinion?... or are you on a "high horse" because you cant simply accept that my opinion is valid because you dont agree with it and thus i am a lesser person than you are?

im not judging you or anyone, you are entitled to your opinion, which i respect, although it clearly differs from mine... personally i dont think that makes you better or worse than me....just different !!!

I have also been up and down on the scale. I was obese in October 2004 and decided to put an end to it. I stopped eating the garbage and lost 126 lbs. It's only because I was home healing from the knee surgery for two months that I put weight on. I am again losing weight. I feel better, look better and it's what I want to do for me, not for someone who will make a decision if I am worthy of him based on how much I weigh.

seekndestroy: right on !!!!

I agree with you about the political correctness crap.

Most overweight people do not have to be overweight. I have lost over 100 lbs three times in my life. I need to lose about 60 lbs this time.

Being obese by choice is someone I would not want to date. If it was a choice between an obese person with no goal to lose weight, and a thinner person, I would choose the thinner person...thumbs up

To the OP who I think is a nice guy. WHo pushes one's buttons? Who can make you laugh? Who when the world has brushed up against your ass so much during your work day, that you just want to go home to the one with open arms... What if those arms are attached to a large body. With me it is and will always be the same answer. The one that makes my bells ring.

roger that.... im not one to assume that weight equals laziness or even unhealthy status.... i too have had to battle weight gain as a result of injury and im still currently in need to drop 20 or so lbs.... im on the gym 5 times a week and playing ball 3 others... so definitely fighting the battle, my biggest problem is i love carbs and sugar, so if i stop working out even for a week or two, i start to baloon up....

bottom line is when you look at someone across the room or the pics on a dating site, you dont know them and even after reading a profile or having a short conversation you are still not going to know them... so what draws you to someone is simple physical attraction and size plays a significant part in it... i think everyone operates like this yet most feel that actually saying it is somehow wrong... then we all get frustrated when we get "rejected" without a valid reason.... personally i'd prefer someone to tell me: "i think you are too fat, too ugly, too much of a jerk.." or whatever else... at least then i'd have something to fix (if it can be fixed) if i decided it was important enough....
