sweetowen: I used to walk every day when my daughter was a baby. And I lived in a 4th floor apartment & was afraid to use the elevator. Thus, I was very thin. I want to start that again. I'd also like to find a bike to buy & start riding.

I already have a membership to a gym about 3 minutes from my house. I guess it's about time I start using it, huh?

True! when I had my first daughter I weighed approx 180 lbs after the birth...I started walking her in the mornings and evenings, pushing the stroller, up and down the street and around the neighborhood, for abt an hour... when she was 3 months old I had gone down from a size 16 to a size 10, not even dieting because I was lactating... I should do that again... I mean walk, not lactate doh

For diet, the basics are to eliminate refined sugars and simple carbs (which become sugars), eat whole grains instead. No potatoes, no sweets, limited fats. 70% of our diet should come from raw fruits and veggies. The remainder should be whole grains, low-fat dairy, and lean meats. Organics are better than non-organics.

I could get into a lot more detail right now since I'm in the nutrition part of my studies, but I'll keep it basic here. grin

Yes to both. Lots of water, distilled is best if you want to eliminate toxins that can add weight, and sheesh, yes...you retain water when you eat a lot of salt, and that adds water weight. Cut out the soda pop too. Water, green tea, herbal teas. Lemon in your water will act as a diuretic and flush toxins out, but warning, it's a lot of extra trips to the ladies' room.

Please do, Owen. Most of us have been there, and some of us still are there. I could still use losing a few too...I'll be your online buddy for it and start adding exercise too. wine (<---juice)

I forgot fruit juice. Not the really sugary ones, and make sure it's 100% juice. Orange, grapefruit, the Dole ones that are 100% blends of different flavors, cranberry juice blended with other fruits, pomegranate. And add CLA and Acai berry extract supplements. They'll help. Acai is one of the "superfoods" and it helps with many things, including weight loss. You could end up being amazed at the energy you have.

Speaking of which, I'm back off of here. I have energy to burn, and I'm not burning it sitting here at my computer. Going off to put it to constructive use.

I went to the store yesterday & bought a gallon of distilled water. Drank some this morning. I munched on organic walnuts for breakfast, as I didn't have time to make anything else & all I have here at work is bread & butter.

I think I'll go to the store & make myself a salad for lunch. Not sure about dinner yet.

I'm very determined!! thumbs up

Same as you owen, never had to diet but recently felt i needed to loose a bit. I have found that eating 3 times a day helps, and i never eat my main meal after 6.30pm

Have Porridge for breakfast with piece of fruit (its low calorie)and fills you up,

Lunch, sandwich wholemeal bread normally with salad, made with olive oil and fresh lemon.

dinner fish, chicken with salad or roasted veg, Ratatouille, stuffed peppers.

Can have fruit if i gat hungry, or low fat yoghurt

Drink loads of water and no alcohol

walking and swimming

Lost 4 inches from my waist in 2 weeks, and 2 from my hips

and have not felt hungry, but has taken willpower

I made myself an egg this morning... no salt or pepper. Drank distilled water. Now I'm at work, munching on walnuts & drinking more water.

I bought a book last evening on good-carb dieting. It gives recipes, tells what to get at the grocery store for those recipes, how many calories, fat, etc., & helpful hints. It's great!! thumbs up

You are getting lots of protein...that is good. It takes protein hours to fully digest, so you won't feel so hungry. When you eat any carbs, make sure you eat some protein with it.

Go Sweetowen go!!!applause

I am trying to diet and I did something wrong. I went from having decent energy to feeling like I ought to be checked into the emergency room. I think I must have cut out too much. I always had a rather fast metabolism and ate a lot. Maybe instead of not eating everything to loose weight fast enough for the picky picky man in my life, I should have just changed what I ate. Any advice for getting myself back to normal. I can't stay awake, am weak, blurred vision, irritable, and have no balance. I have no medical insurance so I am hoping to fix this myself. Thanks for your help sigh
