M*A*S*H

I am here posting this blog because of the actual love I have for the TV Show M*A*S*H, and I want to get everyone else's opinion of the TV Show. I don't know about any of you but I have always loved Capt. Benjamin Franklin Pierce the best! And I have always hated Major Frank Burns, because he despised Pierce, and along with that, Major Burns was oh so jealous of Pierce as well. There were times when Frank would show Pierce who's better and who's Boss.

I was sad when Lt. Col. Henry Blake was permanently sent to Japan after getting high marks on the 4077 as Commanding Officer, that's when Frank Burns showed everyone who's really Boss of the 4077. Pierce and McIntyre, with the help of Corp. Walter O'Reilly(Radar), schemed to bring Henry back to the 4077 solely to neutralize Frank Burns. But I was even sadder to see Henry be sent home permanently. But not as sad as Radar was when he was completely in tears on Henry's Departure.

When Col. Sherman Potter came to the 4077, to me it was "A Breath of Fresh Air" to the TV Show. Especialy with his personality. Sure he was Hot Tempered(Ever knew a Colonel that wasn't?), but Col. Potter was a very Low-Keyed Man you could go to when you needed some understanding.

For the last 2 days, I was on You Tube listening to the song "Suicide Is Painless"(The M*A*S*H Theme Song), and thinking about what if they could redo another Series to this hit TV Show. But I was thinking, being that it has now been over 25 years since The Last Episode(1983 to be exact), if they were to redo M*A*S*H, what American War would they cover in doing this series? Vietnam? Or maybe Desert Storm in Kuwait?

I don't know, but someone, please, give me your take on not only about the TV Show, but also some ideas on how M*A*S*H can be redone if they were to bring it back. I know that Adam-12 was redone 20 years after the TV Series was originally made, so there is something to think about.

I would love to see Mash redone. I love all of them on the show but Frank. I thought that Frank Burns was a pussy and just wanted to get into Hot Lips pants and always taking the easy way out.
I would like to see if they redid the series based on Desert Storm. I loved Clinger and all his get ups as well. He always had me and my family in stitches with his off the wall ward robe.

MASH remains my favorite TV shows of all time. I along with the other millions watched the final episode at a MASH party.

I must correct you though. Col Henry Blake was not permanently sent to Japan. His airplane was shot down over the Sea of Japan according to the story line.

Actually, McClain Stevenson who played Henry Blake left the show over a contract dispute. The network and producers of the show wanted to make sure he permanently could not return to the program.

The head writers were totally against the Viet Nam War, which was at it's peak during the duration of MASH on the air, so made many blatant and subtle innuendos and messages in their writing of the scrpts. Clothing, customs, traditions, not common to Korea but very common to Viet Nam were used for their protest to "The War".

I loved MASH....I don't think that they could ever redo it tho. It would never be done as good as the original...

Hey, Benjamin Franklin Pierce and I are twins....we were born in the same year on the same day. I've been meaning to tell him.

Great show & great movie.... My personal favorite charecter was Frank. The man you like to hate. I really think the show lost alot when he left the show and was replaced my Maj. Winchester, as was alot lost when Trapper left was replaced by Honeycutt. But it is understandable as people back then were replaced in units. I also hated when they killed Henry off, but Potter was a good replacement.

Pierce's humor was ok, but was dry without support of Trapper or Frank. (JMO).

I personally would not want to see a remake, as it was a show that fit in with it's setting, that I don't think it could quite be done in the same way. Not too mention, it was a different culture at the time, and I don't think it would go well with TV of today because the public really isn't into war shows as they once were.

Yes shows such as Generation Kill (very well done by HBO and based on actual events) and Over There (I believe Steven Bochco or Bellisarius did it) have come, they also went (although Genertion Kill wasn't meant to be a series). Over There was a good show with great acting & believeable charecters, it just wasn't popular because it used the Iraq War as the backdrop and the public really turned against it.

I think with the societies we live in, we take life to serious to really be able to look at wars with laughter as we once did. Not to mention, M*A*S*H* was just epic for its time and it's hard to remake an epic series such as it was.

I liked this show too - enough to buy the DVD's. Hawkeye was my favorite.

Some other shows that I liked were 'Tour of Duty' and 'China Beach'.

China Beach was awesome, definately loved that one as well. Didn't quite like Tour of Duty, because I always at the time looked at it as a China Beach ripoff. But yeah, Murphy was a hottie at the time. Nothing better than a woman in uniform...except maybe out of it.daydream daydream

I liked China Beach, it was on while I was in high school. It doesn't compare to MASH as it was a drama and lacked the classic humor that MASH had. Laughing when you ought to be crying, jokes and parties in wartime...that's why MASH was so good.

Besides when do ever get such great characters as MASH had....Corporal Clinger now you don't get better than that!

I am glad that you loved M*A*S*H, and also that you also felt the same way I did about that Jackass Frank Burns. Corp. Max Klinger had a different ensemble everyday. Remember when the entire unit bugged out of their original post and tried to chase a group of Whores out of their Brothel. The Whores wouldn't go, that was until they saw Klinger's entire wardrobe, and Col. Potter told the Whore that if you take all of the Dresses, you must go, and they left in a hot minute. But poor Klinger, you kind of felt sorry for him.

Klinger was a cut-up. Was he not?

I love M*A*S*H.....still watch it....

I love when Hawkeye and Trapper always played pranks on Frank Burns....they were classics...my favorite episode was when Frank requests a transfer after Hawkeye and Trapper play a joke on him..realizing (the both of them)pushed it to far with Frank..find somehow to convince Frank to stay...thats where they come up of the gold they found ..and Frank falls for it...laugh laugh ....even more shows Hawkeye and Trapper driving by in a gold painted jeep....buggers..a classic...

Yes, it was Corporal Klinger who was the one dressed like a Woman. He was being crazy enough, and desperate in getting that Section 8(The Ticket out of the Army). That's why he was dressing like a Drag Queen.

I loved Mash.
I haven't watched it since my early teens though.
Is it very wrong to have a secret crush on Hawkeye?
