Simulacrum: Hello!

I'm a true fan of MASH and own the entire DVD collection.

I differ with you though...Major Frank Burns made the series for me. I like the entire team, but Frank and Colonel Flagg made me laugh so hard that sometimes I could barely BREATHE. Frank Burns was the most hilarious nemesis I have ever seen in a television series - comic genius!

Hawkeye: Hi Frank!
Trapper: Hello, Frank!
Frank: A lot you care.Frank: The army has no place for unauthorized rats!
Radar: She's a hamster, sir.
Frank: Oh, really?
Frank: *sticks finger in cage* Oh, it bit me!
Radar: She's a great judge of character, sir.

In a way, I agree with you. But in other ways, I don't. The only thing that made me laugh about Colonel Flagg was seeing how wrong he was in his assuumptions at the end of the show, and how he makes "His Dissapearing Acts".

Now as for Frank Burns, do you not remember the episodes when he thought he had Pierce over a Barrel? The times when you would want to torture the Hell out of him? What about the time both he and Major Houlihan put Lt. Col. Henry Blake on Trial, as an attempt of Mutiny. And during the time confined Captains Pierce and McIntyre to their tent to prevent them from spoiling their plan? Or the time Frank Burns ran the M*A*S*H ragged after Henry Blake was permanently sent to Japan? To think, that Lowlife Frank Burns was going to throw Pierce and McIntyre in the Stockade for bringing Henry back, only before Henry commanded Frank to put the Phone Down.

The only Frank Burns moment I loved dearly, was when Major Margaret Houlihan announced her engagement to the entire MASH 4077, causing Frank to go ballistic first of all. Then to be someone that he wasn't, Mr. "Blood and Guts". And when he brought in a Korean Family Prisoner(Along with their Ox), I will admit, I was in stitches laughing my Head off.

Those were the times that caused me to loathe Frank Burns!

I loved MASH, and I loved BJ, he had his moments. I like the smart ass wit, of Hawkeye. And the snitching that Hot lips and Frank did together. Father Mulcahy was cool too, and of course Radar, he was cute. The farewell episode killed me though.

Oh yes his ass went nuts, when hot lips said she was going to get married, and that was so entertaining.!!!!!

I loved MASH as well. smitten To me the best all around TV show of all time. If at times it didn't really make you think, then you just weren't thinking.

Even though MASH was set in Korea it was meant to reflect Vietnam. I can't really imagine any sort of remake being done anytime soon, it was done too well the first time. I don't believe anyone is ready for something based on Irag, especially after yesterday in Texas. I think at this point we need the truth and nothing but, with the war still going on anything loosely based would not go over well.

I thought this interesting - I have been watching Scientifc America with Alan Alda, and he mentioned MASH and the scene on the bus, with the woman and the baby. She's trying to keep the baby quiet to save everyone on the bus. He said it was based on a true story.

Sorry if any of this is repeated, didn't have time to read so many posts.

Oh my, you're not confusing fiction with reality, are you? Frank Burns MADE us like Hawkeye and the crew...I guess the difference between us is that I don't confuse a sitcom with reality. I know they are all actors who are best friends, and they are performing their scripts to the tee. "Frank", Larry Linville, spoke at our university many years ago - he was the kindest, most polite, and "frank" person I've met in ages. He addressed the audience of hundreds...it's okay to dislike the character, but it takes so much of that just to realize you liked the "good" characters...Frank was HILARIOUS, in my opinion, moreso that Hawkey, Trapper (whom I met in person) and anyone else :)

That was funny. Was it not? I was so happy to see Frank Burns get his. Remember at the end of the show when Frank's Mother called the 4077. Or was it Radar calling Frank Burns' Mother? Anyway, it was after Major Magaret Houlihan's Wedding that was when Frank made "His Greatest Performance". To the point of being discharged from the U.S. Army. The episode when Major Charles Winchester is sent to the 4077 from Tokyo by a Colonel who lost over $600 to Charles in a game of Cribbage.

I could see that episode over, and over, and over.

Maybe, I shouldn't take Sitcoms too seriously. I will admit, Major Frank Burns was arrogant, self-centered, bossy, and had an ego as large as The Great Earth. But yes, Frank Burns did have his funny moments as well. What was classic was seeing him "Clean House" in a Poker Table with everyone when he dosen't know the first thing about Draw Poker.

Hey guess what! Saturday Morning, at 5 A.M. on Nick-at-Nite's TV Land, they're going to have the MASH Episodes of Frank Burns being replaced by Major Charles Winchester. In other words, Frank's Last Show. That is something I wouldn't miss for the World. I just love seeing how that Jackass got discharged from the Army.

Major Frank Burns was a complete wreck after Major Magaret Houlihan got married, and has never recovered from the shock. And that was his demise from the U.S. Army MASH 4077.

It is episodes like that I could see over, and over, and over and never get tired of seeing. And I would celebrate every minute of those episodes as well.

You should check it out pubwrite08.

sxc666: My Dad was/is a MASH fan................I personally find the show boring as hell.

sxc666, I find MASH, to be right up there along with "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "All In The Family" and "Happy Days" as Old-Time TV Classics.

MASH was a classic, and was one of my favorite shows as well, and I also think the theme song was a good blend with the show to help convey the deeper message, thinly veiled, if not medicated by humor, which was also very well done. I do not wish to see a re-make, though. They never seem to be any near the quality of the originals. In that sense, I think MASH is best remembered as it was.

worshipper: I am here posting this blog because of the actual love I have for the TV Show M*A*S*H, and I want to get everyone else's opinion of the TV Show. I don't know about any of you but I have always loved Capt. Benjamin Franklin Pierce the best! And I have always hated Major Frank Burns, because he despised Pierce, and along with that, Major Burns was oh so jealous of Pierce as well. There were times when Frank would show Pierce who's better and who's Boss.

I was sad when Lt. Col. Henry Blake was permanently sent to Japan after getting high marks on the 4077 as Commanding Officer, that's when Frank Burns showed everyone who's really Boss of the 4077. Pierce and McIntyre, with the help of Corp. Walter O'Reilly(Radar), schemed to bring Henry back to the 4077 solely to neutralize Frank Burns. But I was even sadder to see Henry be sent home permanently. But not as sad as Radar was when he was completely in tears on Henry's Departure.

When Col. Sherman Potter came to the 4077, to me it was "A Breath of Fresh Air" to the TV Show. Especialy with his personality. Sure he was Hot Tempered(Ever knew a Colonel that wasn't?), but Col. Potter was a very Low-Keyed Man you could go to when you needed some understanding.

For the last 2 days, I was on You Tube listening to the song "Suicide Is Painless"(The M*A*S*H Theme Song), and thinking about what if they could redo another Series to this hit TV Show. But I was thinking, being that it has now been over 25 years since The Last Episode(1983 to be exact), if they were to redo M*A*S*H, what American War would they cover in doing this series? Vietnam? Or maybe Desert Storm in Kuwait?

I don't know, but someone, please, give me your take on not only about the TV Show, but also some ideas on how M*A*S*H can be redone if they were to bring it back. I know that Adam-12 was redone 20 years after the TV Series was originally made, so there is something to think about.

mash had their more serious episodes too, that could really grab your heart. I was actually able to identify with Winchester.

MASH always had plenty of serious moments in them. I loved Major Charles Winchester as well. I would watch his episodes over Frank Burns episodes. At least Major Winchester wasn't a Jerk, although he was arrogant and self-centered, you still had to love him.

My favorite episode(s) is in a two part story, when Frank Burns was shipped out, and after Major Frank Burns was gone, Major Charles Winchester was sent to the MASH 4077 in place of that "Jackass Burns", quoted by Colonel Sherman Potter. And Major Charles Winchester was sent to the 4077 by a Colonel whom he beat in a Cribbage Game to the tune of over $600 back over in "Lay Back" Tokyo, as a meaning of revenge.
