Doctors and hospitals are expressing concerned that the FluMist
vaccine could endange people because it contains the live H1N1 virus, unlike the injectable shot that contains the anti-bodies

I really don't know what all the fuss is about. We just need to keep doing what we are doing, and be diligent with hygiene nad usual steps to stop spread of such airborn viruses. As time goes by, other strains appear through mutation, as they do anyway.

I do some work in a clinic, where the doctors have stopped much of the testing. Sometimes if swine flu is detected, the child or adult is told to stay home and rest and recover. All that can be done anyway. Naturally, it's different for the old, young and very frail. But then it's same for ordinary flu, which continues to kill hundreds every year.

It's supposed to be weakened to the point that the risks are very low, but who knows? Revenue has always been the bottom line above the health and safety of citizens, so it wouldn't surprise me.

thumbs up

I agree Ven. Most of my students are doctors and they tell me there is no need for people to worry unnecessarily, just be mindful of hygiene as you say.

I use public transport every day so I carry a hand sanitising gel as an extra precautionary measure.

Are saying that the immune system of the young and old are so frail that they could be vulnerable to the flu virus?

Could you explain? What do mean different for the old?

Not, not SO FRAIL. But they can be weakened a little, not always naturally.

Here, doctors recommend flu shots for older people and young children. But that doesn't mean that people in other age categories may not be as vulnerable, as each person's immune system differs. Any case, some people constitutions are strong as oxen, here we use the term "fit as a mallee bull"

Another snipit regarding regular anual flu.

Every year in the United States, on average:

* 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;
* more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; and
* about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.

Hello. Jan always nice to see you

the State Department of Health has ended a mandate that most of the state health workers be inoculated against the flu that's when all of us should be concerned or marching off to camp B....

The gel is an excellent idea. We ran out of it in the winter jus before the flu struck, so now I´m careful to always have some.
Here it didn´t kill more people than the common flu we have every year.

No need to panick, just follow the suggestions.thumbs up
