I have a document in Word that I need to put into digital form, so I can make corrections to it...the only way I know how to do this is to scan the document into a PDF and then convert it to word...

Sounds like a lot of work, and time, and time is what I don't have. I would really like to know if there's an option where I can do this directly...I mean scan the document automatically into a Word document.

Thank you guys!

Sorry but there is other software out there to do what you are wanting to do, but it sounds like you do not have it.

Only thing you're gonna be able to do IS scan it into a PDF and convert to Word, sorry.

Sorry but if I think I understand you correctly, PDF is your only way to go.
Unless you want to use a Paint program like Photofiltre ( free ) and correct the document with "white-out" and Text Boxes...dunno

Instructions "how to scan a document into word"

Things You'll Need:
Computer
Scanner
Microsoft Word
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Software
Step 1
Make sure your computer and your scanner are on and in proper working order. Your scanner should have the latest drivers installed. This will help it to best handle the Optical Character Recognition program. This is what translates images to text. Your computer should be healthy and virus and spyware free.

Step 2
SimpleOCR in actionMost computer scanners come with some sort of OCR. In the unlikely event that you do not have one you may need to download one online. SimpleOCR is free to download and use and can handle virtually any simple scanner to Word transfers. Please visit simpleocr.com if you do not have OCR already, get it and install it.

Step 3
Now that you are prepared to work with the actual document, place it into your scanner. If you have a document feeder your material needs to be face up, and the top of the page(s) should face the feeder. If not, or if your material is not in single page form then place it under the lid on the scanner glass, in the upper right hand corner. Scan and save the file in *.gif, *.jpeg, or whatever format.

Step 4
Open that image and go to "File>Save As" and name it (filename).tiff in the "TIFF" format as indicated.

Step 5
Go to "Start->Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Document Imaging"

Step 6
Go to "File->Open" and open your scanned document that has been saved in the *.TIFF format.

Step 7
Go to "Tools->Send Text to Word." You will get a prompt stating this process will take time, Click OK. Depending on your computer's speed, this will take anywhere from a few moments to a minute or two.

Step 8
When the process is done Microsoft Word will start itself and your document will be present and able to be edited and managed as you please.
