EliteOne: Lets assume Jesus was real for the sake of this debate.
No sermon and I am not religious, but this is my point of view from my studies in comparison to my own supernatural experiences or bouts of insanity whichever way you choose to view the following;
Jesus was an enlightened being fully ascended spiritually, knew exactly why he was born and what his purpose in life was. He used his life as a vessel to express as best as he could, who we are, who the supreme being was and how we should relate to him, as we all have a relationship with him no matter what level, even in ignorance, as our very existence is always relating to this realm and God's essence.
In short, his purpose was to try and explain that we are all an expression of the divine supreme being, we are eternal, and are here to evolve spiritually. We are all brothers and sisters and an expression of God himself, along with everything you see in the entire universe. Evil, sin, or negativity is simply the reverse of spiritual evolution such as service to self. Love, is loving our creator, like loving a father, loving each other, loving ourselves, and in short service to others. The entire bible and any spiritually inspired literature from any religion or other literary work supports these basic concepts. So we have never been powerless nor separated from him or each other.
